If you gonna recruit a kind of player then you should also have a leadership, mentorship, and counseling program for them as well.

Many of these kids have been programmed a certain way and will need to be de programmed and re established.

I don't know if they have such a program at FSU but if they don't, shame on them.

I think @ATL1 acknowledged that point by saying "If you gonna recruit ..."

IIuc, his point is that some kids have had a raw deal in the parenting dept, so schools that recruit them should have a plan to compensate. I think it's a valid point. You're recruiting a person not a commodity.

My other issue with this is that the typical assumption is that education will solve the problem. Using that logic simply educating society that "murder' or whatever is wrong should be the best solution to reducing the problem. I am sure there are plenty of folks already in prison who previously understood "the consequences of these kinds of actions" which FSU President Thrasher is committed to communicate to his team.

I did not attend TECH. One of the things I have liked about TECH is that I believe they recruit athletes with GENERALLY higher character. Self discipline is one of the moral traits that can both push a student-athlete to put in the study required to make the grades required to graduate at TECH (and to get accepted in the first place) as well as not "punch a girl in the face" when angry. Another is the selflessness associated with putting the team first. I hope FSU does more than just appeal to the self-directed benefits to themselves (i.e. their own "consequences") of not acting immorally although just consequences can be an eye opener.

You're not recruiting and signing the parent you're signing the child.

If it cost the team/coaches, the problem would solve itself = don't recruit hooligans and monitor monitor

Why didn't I think of this? The solution was so simple: Just stay out of the bars and the problem is solved. Wow, that was easy.

So apparently women are still available as punching bags at any fraternity; sorority; or campus dorm events and parties. Because we all know alcoholic beverages are not available anywhere else other than at bars.

It would have made much more sense for Jimbo to fall on his sword and admit that he has brought low character players into his program and exposed them to the entire FSU campus and Tallahassee community.

If the NCAA were to institute a three strikes policy for criminal conduct by players, then FSU would be on probation right now. Maybe FSU and UGA could play each every year in the inaugural: Longest Yard Kickoff Classic.

She told that player she had a boyfriend and he walked away while yelling obscenities at her.

Cook, a sophomore, came over originally trying to calm the situation down, court records say. At another point FSU sophomore wide receiver Travis Rudolph also joined the argument.

The woman pushed Rudolph and he did not react other than to continue arguing. Cook asked if she'd pushed Rudolph and punched the woman after she replied, knocking her into a parked car.

Cook continued to swing at her, hitting her at least one other time as he was being restrained. The blow knocked her to the ground. The group of football players then walked away, court records say.

Cook said he did not remember getting into an argument and said he did not hit anyone, and Rudolph said he was unaware of a fight taking place. Francois said he remembered the argument and Rudolph being hit by one of the women, but no other violence.

Now, I'm being facetious. In reality, it's possible Cook didn't actually hit her. Maybe she brandished a firearm. Maybe she had a weapon of mass destruction and we all should be crediting Cook for literally saving our natural lives.

If that were the case, he should probably stop lying about nothing having taken place. Maybe the players should at least get their stories straight. Or maybe they did and Francois decided to go off script.
