They are on #1 playing extra golf. To my untrained eye, F$U guy is about 20-25 feet out, Fontenot probably has 40 feet. I think we need to hope that both 2 putt and they go to another hole at this point. Also Hiroshi isn't totally done but looking unlikely he gets to extras.
down to our last hope, he needs to win both holes

Christo really blew this for the second straight year. This guy is supposed to be the next Matt Kuchar too.

4 match plays in the past 2 NCAA Tournaments and he's 0-4.

Christo would benefit from another year in the program. He needs to get more consistent off the tee as his length often gets him into trouble off the tee. If he were to come back (I assume he has a covid year) this team will be very, very competitive next year. They will be good even without him but that team would be so good with him. He has been good this year but not stellar.

You probably don't hit a 3 wood 275 yards either. These guys can flat move it.
as an aside, did you see the recent PGA/ Coming down the stretch, DeChambeau (sp?) hit an 8 irom from 221 yds to within 3 feet. If us weekend warriors had that kind of distance we wouldn't need to carry anymore than a 5 iron in our bags.

It is just unreal how far some of these guys hit it now. They probably need to slow the ball down to keep some of the legendary course relevant. I read that Christo hit a drive over 400 yards not too long ago.

My wife and I took the grandson to the Fedex/St. Jude tournament. While watching on the range, I could not see their drives land - they hit them out of my range of vision. I told my grandson that in a few more years, I was also going to be able to hit the ball like that - meaning I can't see where it lands. The sound of the ball of the clubhead is what you hear when you flip a steak when searing it on a cast iron skillet. If i could barter, I think I'd give up golf for the rest of my life if I could only experience hitting a Rory McIlroy drive just one time.

I’m not calling anybody out, but anyone on here who accuses GT players of choking or blowing it need to really step back and think before posting. I’m sure you think you could handle the situation so much better but think about this: Tiger Woods lost (ie didn’t win) almost 80% of the tournaments he played in.

Tiger is 13-21-3 in 37 Ryder Cup matches. Guess he choked. At this level of golf, there is about 0.5 strokes per round difference between great and good players. That is why the old match play tournament had so man quote/unquote upsets.

I hit my 2 iron and 9 iron 180 yards, regardless. I don't know how to use either correctly. That's why I don't have ANY irons.

I am not sure if it's match play that can bother some golfers as much as it is the team aspect of it. 99.9% of the time golf is an individual sport and I think it is weird for some (like maybe Tiger ) to play with the burden of having teammates that are also affected by your score.

Against guys I compete with, I prefer stroke play as I am the steadier type with little to no variance (vary few scores over bogey). Guys I play with can make more birdies and pars but will have the occasional derailement that on the weekend goes on the card as a double bogey max but in stroke play may have been an actual 4 or 5 over.

Most of these kids are swinging golf club so much harder these days with jacked up lofts and in dechambeaus case a tad longer shafts and greater quality shafts at that. It’s all amazing though.

I must have read this some 25 or 35 years ago in Golf Digest but Jack (the GOAT) said that 80% of the distance improvement was coming from the golf balls. The other was coming from the clubs/shafts. He said if you made the current golf ball conform to the old standards then the clubs that have been obsoleted would be back in the rotation. To paraphrase another saying, if Jack said it then I believe it,

Raise your hand if you ever hit a Titleist or a Club Special or Ram or a Ben Hogan golf ball so thin with your 4 iron from 160 yards out that the ball was grinning at you with its rubber band innards spilling out of its sides. Asking this for a friend.

Damn that's almost what I hit my 4 iron back in the day. He must be impacting the ball 50% harder than I did and I was an aggressive ball striker. I was good at about 175 with my 8 iron. I tried to never be at that distance if I could help it, preferred to use my 7 iron a little farther out as I was money with that club. Likely some of that had to do with the Korean Titleist's (Titleistt, Titleisst or Titlistt depending on the origin of manufacture) I used to play. I got an extra 10-15 yds from those balls.

A Korn Ferry player has joined my club. We have several former college players that are members as well. The Korn Ferry player shot our course record (61) within a few months of joining. Most people cannot comprehend the ability of these guys and how difficult these courses are set up for these competitions. The guys on our team are exceptional players and love the competition. They don't choke. They make bad swings at times or get bad breaks. Did Sargent from Vandy who is one of the top college players choke several short putts. No. He just had a misread or a bad stroke. Sometimes it's loss of confidence in the read and not choking.
