Well, Duke went there last year (beat Northern Illinois 36-14) and apparently Duke could not go back there again this year.

Maybe that’s why GT was selected for the Quick Lane this year .... ??

By the way, what bowl is Duke going to this year?

No surprise here. Miami will always be picked ahead and Pitt won the Coastal. Our only option would have been the Belk Bowl over UVA. I'm guessing the Belk Bowl figured they could get more UVA fans to show up than Tech fans and they might not be wrong there. Hell out only argument to play in Charlotte was a match up against Auburn and the Music City Bowl chose Auburn.

What is the advantage of even going to a bowl like that other than extra practice and some reward to the team. We are going to have a new coach and likely a new offense so why extra practice for this one. We should be going to a closer bowl just to say goodbye to our coach.

If they're better then us, then why didn't they beat us? Don't bring USF, Pitt, or Duke into it because Pitt should have a better bowl than us, but Duke doesn't since their conference record was crap. We finished fourth in the ACC end of discussion. We should have had a tier 1 bowl or at the very least, the Military.

If we had gotten the Military Bowl we would be playing Cincinnati. No thanks. At least we get a team we’ve never played before.

Fans that say "This bowl sucks, I'm not going"...well, you're part of the reason why we always find ourselves in crap bowls. GT doesn't travel well. On top of that, we're 7-5 and came off a trouncing by UGA. CPJ is retiring...no one outside of GT and our fans and potential coaching hires cares. The irony is, some are making a big deal that CPJ is retiring, YET still refuse to go. If you don't see how silly that is...well, that's why we're going to Detroit.

I'll be there, and I'm taking family that lives in Michigan. Put your money where your mouth is or shut up about being "disrespected".

I agree 100%. Me and my wife GTRamblerLady would have been very very happy to go to the Birmingham Bowl!

BTW, which ACC team is going to the Birmingham?

Agree no one cares CPJ is retiring but hard to fault anyone for not going when the game is the day after Christmas and you'd have to fly there on a busy travel day. All for a boring bowl game.

Obvious answer is obvious.

After next year, Harbaugh will have failed to beat tOSU for as many years as Gailey failed to beat georgie.

CPJ with a Don Brown D and Michigan talent? GT's Cumberland record is on the line.

Michigan folk want to see it up close.

The same advantage for any bowl that isn’t the CFP. These games have been scrimmages since at least the BCS, and even before them, you knew some of the teams weren’t playing for anything.

So I'm supposed to drive from Nashville to Cincinnati to be with my daughter, her husband and my 15 month old grandson. Leave them on Christmas day to see the game? I would travel to all of the other bowls with exception on one (Pinstripe) and preordered tickets just to be able to do that but leave family on Christmas day? Ain't happening.

Obviously each individual has different circumstances. I'm just saying we can't be full of fans who say one thing and does another and expect to be treated differently. If GT wants to be picked for better bowls, we need to make our presence known. Yes, the date sucks, but like CPJ likes to say all the time...it is what it is...

Or winning the coastal and forcing ourselves into tier 1. Perpetually going to bad bowls will turn it into a self fulfilling prophesy. Winning our way into better bowls is just another way we can do it.
