Nick Wilhite

OF
LHP
5-9 155 L/L

Nick Wilhite is a 2016 OF/LHP with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Buford, GA who attends Buford HS. Slender athletic build, room to get stronger. Left handed hitter, wide stance, slightly open, quick hands to the ball, swings hard, handles the barrel well and showed the ability to drive the ball both pull side and to the opposite field. 6.63 runner, good fundamentals defensively, moves to the ball aggressively, strong arm from a high extended release. Also pitched and shows two-way potential. Good balanced body turn, compact quick arm action. Mid-80's fastball with nice sinking and running action, topped out at 86 mph. Curveball and change up still developing, tends to slow arm on both pitches. Worked quickly and filled up the strike zone with all his pitches. Good student.

GT latest commit: RHP Jay Wilson, an Ohio product ranked 269 nationally

Wilson 6-4, 205lbs is projected as a pitcher in college. He throws right-handed and bats left-handed.

Wilson hit .407 with 33 hits, four doubles, a triple, a home run, 20 RBI and four stolen bases for the Tigers this past spring. He was 4-2 on the mound with 30 strikeouts, two saves and a 1.77 ERA in 35 1/2 innings.

Wow, we had the 8th ranked recruiting class for 2015 before he committed!! http://perfectgame.org/Rankings/Recruiting/CollegeCommits.aspx?ID=1628&g=2015

A 95 mph RHP. It'll be interesting to see where he is ranked. If top 100, he'll probably go straight to the minor leagues. Hope not, but It Is What It Is.

Right now 3 of our 13 recruits are top 100 (before Murray). Murray would be our 9th RHP!! As we have seen Danny Hall is going after pitchers big time and it paid off last year. Look at how well we develop them for MLB!

Read an article about his pitching. But with the injury (collarbone) he had from football he'll probably will be used as a catcher. Makes me think (do I dare say) about Mat Weiters

Tristin English from Pike County has been clocked as high as 95 mph. His PG rating was recently bumped up to #37 nationally.

http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=10496

Getting a top 100 player to commit is a mixed blessing. If you get him to actually come to school, it is great. But often they go to the minors after getting drafted. Then you've turned down recruiting for that position possibly and reduced other scholarship chances for players more likely to show up?

We managed to keep Kel Johnson (#52) this year since he wasn't drafted. Probably because Kel was home schooled he may not have gotten as much exposure?

Right now we have 3 commits in the top 100 for our 2015 class- Brandt Stallings (1B #23), Tristin English (RHP #37) and Jonathon Hughes (RHP #77). I'll be ecstatic if we get 2 on the roster.

Stud catcher commits! Kyle McCann:
"According to amateur scouting service Perfect Game USA, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound McCann rates as the No. 1 catcher in Georgia and among the top 200 players nationally for the 2016 class."

Welcome to GT. From the article it sounds like GT is just the right place for y0u. Business degree is good regardless of MLB! http://www.forsythnews.com/section/114/article/26686/#.VNAGekQQ6Mw.twitter

A lot of good players. Right now Perfect Game has us with the #9 class (of course depends who shows up). What's surprising is only 3 of 9 are pitchers. If Gooden and Wilson show up at GT (don't go to minors) that will help a lot. Each player is linked to Perfect Game bio.

I believe the player rankings are somewhat initiative of future performance (in CFB its a 40% correlation)........ notice the top teams this year are also getting the best recruits in general (especially the last number which is the average player ranking.)

Just a question for the group...I am originally from the NE and wondered if we went after Ashton Bardzell out of Ramsey NJ?

All American kinda guy (ie ga Tech kinda guy) who broke Mike Trout's (also from NJ) home run records in NJ and for the USA?

Center Fieder...586 BA... 18 home runs

He is currently committed to University of Hartford?
