There is probably no actual stat behind this, but doesn’t it feel like Miami is the team we’ve beaten the most when they are a heavy favorite? I feel like they beat us every time it’s sort of a toss up and whenever we’re supposed to win, but we upset them when it feels like we have no shot.
Maybe. But lately, UNC and FSU have to be near the top of the list.

The ACC just posted:

  • Miami at Georgia Tech – noon ET on ESPN
  • Syracuse at Boston College – noon ET on The CW
  • Clemson at Virginia Tech – 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
  • Duke at NC State – 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network
  • Florida State at Notre Dame – 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC – as previously announced
  • Virginia at Pitt – 8 p.m. ET on ACC Network
Just not understanding how/why the Clemson-VaTech game got the 3:30 slot over our game. Miami > Clemson and VaTech just lost, they are equally as average (at best) as us.

I don't believe the game time has anything to do with the quality of teams, or the quality of the matchup. Number 5 Texas is playing at 12:00 also. Actually, Austin is in the Central Time Zone, so that game is at 11:00AM at the stadium. ESPN has the #2 team playing the #16 team at 3:30. The other 3:30 games on ESPN channels are: one unranked game, one game with the #18 team, and one game with the #19 team. They don't delegate bad teams or bad games to a certain time slot. They try to spread things out so they don't have the #2, #4, #5, and #16 teams all playing in the same time slot, so that people will watch all day long instead of changing channels at every commercial break during one time slot, then ignoring the other time slots. They have it set up to try to maximize the amount of time that people will spend watching ESPN channels on Saturday.

I believe it does but like you said, they also probably try to balance it. So if there's #2 vs. #16 at 3:30 on ESPN/ABC that would make sense.

Avoid sticker games-in prime time.
TCU vs Ga in CF championship game was a seismic shift.

I spoke to a UM friend this AM. He said if our O shows up we can absolutely beat Miami. He doesn’t like their D.
If we are healthy, our offense absolutely should be able to hang with them. Miami's defense has been very shaky in ACC play. Heck, even Duke scored a season-high 31 points last weekend.

Our challenge is to avoid a shootout. Miami seems to own the fourth quarter.

I have watched pretty much every Miami game this year.
Unfortunately, their O will very likely tear us apart. Very afraid of what Ward can do with our lack of a pass-rush and our DBs with poor ball skills.
That being said, if our offense (read: Haynes & Haynes) is healthy, we can absolutely go score for score with them and turn it into a shootout. Their defense struggles against teams that go side-to-side like our offense does. Need Buster to bring his A-game as well.
We will really need the crowd to make a difference to pull this one off.

Our pass rush was improved against Drones. But teams with a better pass rush than ours have failed to contain Ward. He has had 17 sacks this year but still puts up video game numbers.

In my amateur opinion, our defense would be better off focusing on Restrepo and limiting his catches as much as possible. Also, right now there is rain in the forecast. That helped us last year by inhibiting their passing game and keeping the score down. Perhaps it can happen again. Granted, they didn’t have Cam Ward last year.

Don't want to hear about rain.
We need to spy Ward in passing downs. He can make plays with his legs when protection breaks down.

The issue with spying a QB like Ward is the spy has to be athletic and fast enough to actually cause a problem for Ward. Far too often you see teams try and spy a QB with a LB who has zero chance in the open field to impact the athletic QB.

Agree. Putting a spy on Ward is such an obvious counter that I suspect others have tried and failed. We need an unconventional solution.

Cristobal comments concerning GT.

"Haynes King and that offense are really good. Yards per play, they are up there with some of the tops in the country and they are really good at generating chunk plays, they protect him really well and I think they are either No. 1 or No. 2 in the country at pressures (allowed), they certainly do a great job of also getting him loose, he has a lot of explosive playmakers and watching a guy like that play, you have to understand that making them one dimensional is not necessarily the answer because he can chuck it around all over the place too.

Athletically, Ward reminds me of Jeff Sims in a way but is much more consistent, much higher football IQ, tougher, much better passer, and has superior leadership skills.
