Tennessee HS football is not anywhere near GA or FLA . They get poached as well for a lot of their best players. The right coach could win there with the right staff. The fans might be more tolerant for the next guy but he would have to show improvement real fast. There are a ton of sidewalk fans in that state and they need there egos fed. My brother is one of them.

Tennessee has some real recruiting challenges. Not exactly like Tech, but they have to compete with all the SEC and ACC big boys. Now Memphis and even Vandy poach the in state guys. Knoxville is somewhat remote from civilization.

I am not sure about that. There is not a lot of talent, comparatively, in east Tennessee. West Tennessee has much more, but Alabama, Ole Miss and Miss State are all just as big, if not bigger there. It is 6 hours from Memphis to Knoxville. It is only 1.5 to Oxford, 3 to Starkville and 4 to Tuscaloosa.

Yep, if the University [sic] of georgia didn't exist, Tennessee would hold the title for the team that continually does the least with the most. It is truly amazing that they have on average a top 10 recruiting class every year but crap the bed in the single easiest conference division in P5 football. I mean, they get to play Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina on top of 2-3 cupcakes every year for pete's sake.

Where is there talent in West Tennessee? I went to high school in the Memphis area and can’t think of any high school around there that consistently developed D1 players. There’s a lot more talent in East and Middle Tennessee.

He makes a million and a half after getting the shaft at Oklahoma, Swinney has created a remarkable culture, Clemson is going to be on top for a long time ... and then there is the Tennessee of Kiffin and Jones. And right now is no longer considered a top tier job anymore. Think Kiffin-FAU. Besides, Tennessee would have to spring for a holder-backer to keep the crazed Venables off the field. Clemson's strength coach is charged with that now and it obviously wears him out. The Tennessee fans wouldn't be happy with their next head coach being a defensive coordinator anyway. I still think in the case of Tennessee if they land a good head coach they should win 9-10 games every season.
