Favorite GT vs ND moment?

My one and only GT/ND game attendance was the 2006 game. It was my first game as an alumnus, buying tickets in a non-student section. My section was quietly doing their taxes so I went back to the student section and lost my voice screaming at the refs when they handed ND the game.

I have seen two ND games. Unfortunately, I was out of town for the 2006 game. The other two were 1974 and 1976. I am 1-1 watching GT-ND.

I missed that, too, but my brother was there that night (IIRC, that game was at night, but maybe not).

Anyway, I was present for the Milkbone shower for UGAg about a decade later.

Favorite GT-ND moment was the fish toss. I didn't want to carp about it because GT really floundered, but holy mackeral the whole ND sideline smelt like bass.

Ara Parsigan(sp). Students used to sit behind the opposing team back then. The next year we played USCw when McKay was their coach. He bought all the tickets behind the bench to avoid having things thrown. Bob Hope came to that SoCal game. GT students have been known to throw things over the years. The fish thing with ND was classic. The seat cushions came flying down one year like Frisbees.

I’m picking up from this thread that it happened more than once. But the game I attended was a day game. If I had to guess the year I would say 78 maybe. I would have to look it up.

My memory was that from a distance it was like a shower. Where did all those fish come from?!!! The alarming thing was some bottles started getting into the mix of things raining down. ND players were invited to sit on the Tech sideline after that.

the crowd for that game was electric and I wish I was old enough to have gone but I was like 3 months old at the time.

I mean just look... 56,800 jammed into the place.

I saved up and got a partial season ticket in high school and went to this game.

Only a handful of games that I've attended since feel like they match the energy - 2009 VT and 2015 FSU come to mind

Which is why I said fish throwing clearly has happened more than once.

Devine was bitterly hated by Tech fans for running up the score the previous year at South Bend and were ready for a fight.

I've only been a fan since 2010, so my favorite GT vs ND moment was in 2015 when we were down like 3 scores with a 3 minutes to go and we almost recovered 2 onside kicks in a row and stole a win.

Bear Bryant always had his players keep their helmets on when they sat on the bench at Grant (not Hyundai, GRANT) Field. Good idea, given all those Coke/beer bottles.

I was at the game on Nov 15, 1969 against #9 Notre Dame, possibly the first fish tossing. Tech QB's Jack Williams and Charlie Dudish, RB Brent Cunningham and All American DT Rock Perdoni vs ND QB Joe Theisman and All American DT Mike McCoy. A great game with ND over GT 38-20. I could not tell the type of fish that pelted Coach Ara Parseghian and the Notre Dame bench from the upper east stands, but that started a fish-throwing trend at Grant field that continued at least through 2015, according to the ND fan forum https://forum.uhnd.com/forum/index.php?action=display&forumid=6&msgid=288251&archive=1 . One ND fan stated "They were throwing fish for the derogatory name calling of Catholics, "Mackrel Snappers"." Historically, there has been no love between ND and GT fans and athletes. The football team was in the stands when we beat Coach Digger Phelp's 1972 basketball team 82-62, but no fish were thrown on the court. But we did have fish thrown at us when we played at Pittsburgh. Can you imagine how a fan's hands smelled after bring a dead fish to the game?

Tommy, the fish toss actually dates to the '67 game when St. Ara played his starters the whole game in a 3-36 loss for the good guys.... he was trying to do the same in that '69 game leading 0-30 right before the half, Theisman throwing the ball trying to score until Jeff Ford made his big INT in the 20-38 loss.

BTW, Dudish's disappearing act happened on the Monday before the '69 Notre Dame game.... when he didn't make it back to our bus in the French Quarter Saturday night after the 7-14 loss to Tulane.

Dirtiest players in our era? Notre Dame, hands down. All the cliches about what happens in a pile......

Does anyone else remember the flyover before the 2006 game? I was sitting in the north end zone and I swear you could feel the heat off the afterburners when the pilot kicked it.
