Faulkner will have the luxury of being picky for his next job. He'll have a VERY good veteran QB, and one of the top offenses, good players at the skill positions, and 4 star prospects at the QB positions to step in for King once his time at GT is up. He also has a great relationship with Key and the people at GT so his work environment isn't like 'Bama where it's extremely stressful every year.

If the right job doesn't come along next offseason, he won't be in rush. Key is setting up a great place for our coaches to work and grow into their careers.
One thing we have going for us in regard to keeping Faukner on board is he is really a die hard Georgia boy. Grew up and played and coached in Gwinnett county. Has kids in school nearby. And has an offense loaded with talent and a lot of young talent. As mentioned he has some talented quarterbacks waiting in the wings who, I believe, will become more talented on the field playing in his offense. With each year of offensive success I think we will see more and more top recruits who want to stay home start coming to Tech. If our new DC can show some naked improvement we could be looking at years like we had under O'Leary and Ross. We have a head coach that played (and coached under O'Leary). And O"Leary had Ralph Friedgen as his offensive Coordinator. Hopefully Faulkner is Key's Friedgen.

GT is now in the business of paying coordinators 1 million dollars a year. I love the new direction. Our budget has gone up almost 50 million dollars in 2 years. We keep going in this direction, GT has a great chance of having sustained success.

Some of the same posters on here were screaming that GT would never compete in this new CFB landscape whether it be money or having to run a unique offense. I’m glad that stuff is being put to rest
Tech’s always had money, they just wouldn’t commit it to athletics. Now that Cabrera is Pres, he’s making it happen. Competing at a high level on the field remains to be seen but I’m very encouraged with what CBK is doing. I believe he gets it, and we all know he loves GA Tech.

I mean, we’re still a looooooonnggg way from really competing for anything major. But we are closing in on being a consistent top 20-30ish team like most on here (myself) have always said we should be.

We're making progress but to put things into perspective for 2023 the 25th highest paid coordinator was paid $1.4M/yr. We're probably going to need another 50% increase to get close to Top 25 pay.

That would be the real test of how much money we are willing to invest. Key is currently the lowest paid coach in the ACC. If we doubled his salary he wouldn't be a top 25 paid coach. Meanwhile, we are looking at a 20 million dollar yearly hit due to the House settlement and programs in the Big 10 and SEC that already pay head coaches 6+ million a year are about to have massive increases in media revenue. Finances are going to get more complicated soon. While it is fun to say if Key goes gangbusters this year we can give him a big raise, but in reality if he does that, we probably can't afford him anymore.

All coaches want to feel appreciated. "Home town" discount only goes for so long. If Key is consistently coaching GT to be a top 15-25 team (which I really see being a reality for us in the next 3-5 years), he'll want to be paid like it. The truth is, he'll probably get that if he can make GT a consistent top 15-25 team. Other ADs know that if you can win at GT, you can pretty much win anywhere. That's why our football coaches who have done well have had "bigger" opportunities. Curry, Ross, O'Leary, Gailey, CPJ...all won at GT, and had opportunities at other colleges or the NFL. It will be the same for Key.

Right now, Key is more worried about setting up the foundation to make GT a perennial conference contender, and a playoff candidate. He's fighting hard so GT has the best chance at recruiting, retaining players, and rewarding his staff. He's not worried about himself at the moment. You see this with the raises our staff is getting, and the ability to get an up and coming Defense Coordinator. Faulkner had several opportunities to move on, and he actually turned down a job that would have paid him more than the raise he got recently so he could stay and help Key build something at GT. Key knows he's going to get rewarded (handsomely) if he gets GT where he wants it...and our donors want it. He's got a LOT of mega donors on his side supporting the program with their checkbooks.

Even more than Key’s attitude, the donor support for Key is the bigger factor in my belief he is staying for the long haul.
