When have you seen Lucas running with the one? J/W.

I wasn't at Saturday's Scrimmage, but it was reported that Lucas got a lot of run with the 1's. If you look at the clips of practice during CPJ's interview, Lucas was taking reps with guys who were 1's last season (saw Qua Searcy in motion).

Like I intimated, just all conjecture by me given CPJ's history and speculative bits of evidence. Remember how Vad was handled? During his redshirt season, there was a lot of "He is advanced beyond his years" talk. As soon as Vad started playing 2012, CPJ was much more measured in what he said.

Of course, saying all this, Chase Martenson is probably going to start. :)

Still think it was clear from this presser and others that he is excited about JJ's potential more than that of the others. He also knows he needs a QB that can run the offense well and won't turn the ball over easily.Once he feels JJ isn't a liability in those areas (maybe next year?) I think the position will be his to lose.

I see, but from what I've heard all the QB's ran with the 1's in the scrimmage and in the clips you are talking about all the other guys were 2's on the OL that I saw as well as the Bback. We have 4 abacks that just rotate in and out so that's probably why we say Quay. Just my observation. I don't think we can get anything from those clips imo. I tried, I paused it on all the clips to see who was on the field and they were all with the 2's in the clips. I was joking in a post above that CPJ is picking those clips to play mind games with us lol.

I agree that he said MJ is doing it right but I didn't hear a hint that the others aren't.

CPJ: "Sometimes being experienced and trying to do it the right way ends up hurting you... when other kids... (hands flail upward)... just throw it. But also, when you start playing real games, just pitching it will create a lot of turnovers when you're not supposed to... pitch off the wrong guys and that sort of thing. So I don't worry about Matthew pitching the ball, if the read key tells him to pitch the ball, he'll pitch it."

Thanks, I should have listened again this morning. I still don't know if thats for all the other guys though. Maybe just the two young guys? I think TM might have gotten better with the pitch.

I wouldn't consider Qua to be first strong O simply due to the nature of rotating A backs. If someone could find if he was with first string OL I'd Be more convinced but until the 3rd I'm considering it a three horse race

Mj was to be our midline and qb keeper ala the new nesbit = seemed like a good base plan and one which would allow the young guys to get spot duty. With injury in spring and start of camp mj as a season solid qb is a questionable case. It still could be a good base case as long as we get the back up truely ready early

Looking at season I see a rough patch of quality away games. Having a new qb at that time wouild be a baptism of fire.

In 15 i was all on the train about the new fast ab and wr. Cheese warned me and so did one of the gt coaches. In sports bar of the casino where the team stayed for nd , a coach said Tulane folding did not do us any favors. " We dressed a recofd number of players. We will see what happens when they get punched in the face by nd s grown men."

I would lean towards L J because of his height and passing gives coach more plays he can call from sideline and thus reduce pressure on young guy.

I thought that the best thing out of the presser was that Coach thought Jake Stickler had a great scrimmage. That is really good news; I thought form the first that one of the things we had to hope for the coming year is that Jake would move up to first option at OT. He and Shamire (no doubts there) need to be ready for our OL to have the needed depth.

Or, at least, that's what I think. Coach may have other options in mind.

Hindsight is 20/20. In my mind, you always play for today first and 4 years down the road later. If we needed help on returns and he could provide it, put him out there. Would I have loved having him in 2015? Sure, but I understand why we didn't. If a kid has potential but doesn't make you better today, then by all means, give him a shirt. If however, he does make you better, well, the fans and teammates deserve our very best that season.

What I don't understand is how on a PREDOMINANTLY RUNNING team we didn't have guys on the roster (and upperclassman) that couldn't do that. -since we are such careful recruiters. Also if we added WRs or DBs there should have been even more possibilities. But we have to go to a TRUE FR.I thought at time ,it was amazing and then it did bite us in the butt later no matter how it is spun.2015 didn't "just happen", it took some unfortunate happenings but also bad decisions before and during the season..
