In the old scheme and in the new scheme , the qb that reads the defense, makes the calls, AND QUICKLY -looks off , stops and pops will start. The milton qb at ucf was a magician

I look for us to be about 70/30 run to pass. At least early in the season. A lot of QB read option.

I think thats too run heavy for what they are doing. 60/40 moving to balance (55/45)is likely or i should say possible though. There are simply too many rpo and under routes in this O to be 70/30

Will we see any under center plays? I agree with PJ philosophy on why give up 3 yards at the snap inside the 10. Even a lot of pro teams do both.

If our OL isn't blocking well, do you expect a higher passing percentage? Maybe pass rather than TFL?

The whole awesomeness of option and rpo out of gun is it doesn’t require these slogging 5-7 step drop pass pros to essentially do the same as a playaction. Which is make someone step out of place to open the pass. And it gives a run option as well.

I actually dont expect an ol issue throughout this year like many. However starting with Clemson may give bad first impressions; alot of me thinks the offense will be better off than some think. Depth on the line is the main issue and maybe at one spot.

Really only the option schemes or straight FB dive from under center don't give up yards before getting the ball in the hands of the ball carrier. Having to receive the snap and retreat a few steps to put the ball in the belly of the back really isn't very different than receiving the snap directly a few yards back and turning to the side to hand off the ball.

How about tailback off guard and/or qb follow off tackle. I like the back running downhill to the handout.

I do like having at least the ability to do a QB sneak under center when you need 1 yard or less, although you probably need more than just that 1 play. :)

Have you got a chance to checkout defense yet depth chart wise? I’m not saying everything will be rosy or even good, but I’m glad we are getting this Clemson compared to the last 3 or yrs.

The talent is there but:

9 new starters

Lost over a 100lbs at the DT spot. Starting DT is 280lbs!

Aside from Simmons, LB probably the weakest its been in 5+

Secondary solid.

One thing, if campbell and carpenter are truly equal, then if u slide carpenter to olb and start campbell with thomas, then carpenter with charlie thomas, swilling, curry is not awful and quez jackson plus knight.

Dl tk is 300. He will start. Martin is 280 and will play the 3 in a over technique imo. De is a rotation likely; with a few speed specialists and traditional guys like dingle at strong.

To be honest Sed, the last time we played alot of over, with slants and spills for the olb to clean up our starting dts where 280 and 290 and we had one de who was 245 and about as good agains the run as anyone (daryl robertson). I think for me there its about age more than size and thats my worry. Experience.

From my understanding, only time we’ll see Carpenter at LB is Dime or Dollar. I believe I mentioned it in the Spring thread, but the biggest reason why CC and Riq was close was bc Riq was too big and out of shape. Dude was 235lbs! It wouldn’t surprise me at if Demetrius Knight is starting or getting major reps by game 5 or 6

We would have been 126th in the country last year in passing play percentage throwing the ball only 30% of the time. Really, we would have only been above the triple option teams. If we are trying to shed the image of being a running team who passes occasionally then we are going to have to do it more than that even if it is somewhat to our detriment.

The reason I said that early in the season, was not to put too much pressure on our QBs.

I’d say we will likely be around 60/40 run/pass, with a healthy dose of QB runs mixed in with RB carries and slot guys on sweeps. It just makes sense with the talent on the team now that we would be leaning toward a run heavy approach, even as we are opening up the passing game.
