Really we’ve beaten them 2 of the last 6 times. It’s not like we could never beat them or can never, ever beat them again. Yeah we’ve made it more difficult to beat them, but 3 of the last 5 coaches have figured out how to do it. It won’t be long until their current idiot starts destroying their program by always losing the big one & becomes reckless with his recruiting. That coupled with fielding a somewhat competitive team with a decent game plan is all it takes. You keep the game close and wait for them to play like the morons they are. Half the time they’ll give you a shot. We don’t have to be Top 10, somewhere in the the Top 40 is enough to whip them 25% of the time.
This is largely true but the talent gap is huge, no denying that but then it was huge when Pepper beat them in 1974 in the rain, it was huge when Curry won, and so forth. As for the "current idiot", everything shapes up for him to win that elusive national championship this year. It is perfect for them. The SEC East is theirs for the taking, Alabama lost more talent from last year than they have in a long time. No excuses for the Dwags. If not now, well, it may never happen in our lifetime. The amount of talent squandered over the years at Athens Correctional is breathtaking. Year after year stretching all the way back to 1980, they have reeled in top 10, top 5, and so forth recruiting classes with not a national championship to show for it.

Out of what ~500+ guys? Didn’t CGC recruit that many NFL guys in 2007 alone? Loved CPJ but cmon boys… his recruiting hurt us. Admit it.
I'm really impressed with the talent cgc has brought in so far, and I'll be 100% sold on his recruiting prowess once he brings in the same talent level he's gotten in the skill positions, but on the offensive and defensive lines. That is the critical part to this recruiting experiment success or not

I think historically (at least recent history) Tech has shown to be a 5-7 win team with whatever hindrances we've had to endure (bad coaching, bad breaks, high academic standards, injuries, etc.). I think good coaching and breaks gets us to 9-11 wins (as you say). The rare 3-win or fewer seasons have generally been during transitions or when the team fell apart from horrible coaching (2015 is an anomaly). I think we are building towards that 7-win plateau with this version of revamping and if the coaching shows to be as good on game-day as they are on the recruiting trail, I expect we'll be in the 9-11 wins more often than not. Only time will tell. BL is the 0-1 win coach, not the 3 win coach.
In the Three years that Bill Lewis Coached at Georgia Tech he won 11 games. Coach Collins will have to win 6 games this season to be 1 game ahead of Bill Lewis. But it is not a strecth to say Coach Collins record is close to Bill Lewis. In fact Bill Lewis first two years he won 5 games each, however most give Coach Collins first two years a pass since he took over for Paul Johnson. Year three will be very interesting!

I would agree, we need the staff to take the next step in Player Development and Gameday Coaching! I think most people see the improvement in recruiting, the AI2020 fundraising campaign was a hit despite 6 wins in FB over the last two seasons. This season should let everyone know if the staff is developing the players!

Lewis took over a loaded team, with lots of returning talent, two years removed from a national championship, with a solid QB, offensive line, defensive line, skill players, and fresh off a bowl win over #17 Stanford. Collins started with one of the lowest amounts of returning offensive and defensive production in the top division of NCAA football.
Comparing him to a coach like Curry or even Pepper Rodgers might make sense, but comparing to Lewis doesn't.

Firstly, I agree. CPJ blocking schemes for the OL were probably as complicated as any in college football. He needed a specific skill set in addition to smarts to accomplish that. What CGC wants to do doesn't require the same athleticism but does require much more size. CPJ always said he recruited the big guys that could do what he wanted but had a hard time getting those top linemen on campus. Part of that was that cut blocking was a much larger percentage of blocking calls than most other offenses, including NFL offenses. So, those top linemen with people whispering in their ears were never coming to GT. Paul did the best he could with what he had, which was pretty damn good.

Secondly, that wasn't an attack against the CPJ's staff. It was hyperbole characterizing what the previous staff did. There was a significantly higher percentage of cut blocking in CPJ's OL schemes than CGC's schemes. Simplistically, the goal of cut blocking attempts to get the hands and eyes down so the play gets by the defender before they can react. CPJ moved away from certain types of cut blocking as they changed the rules on him. Whether you like the characterization or not, it's the perception of what we had.

You defending CPJ every time someone says something contrary isn't necessary. He did have a ton of RB in the program. A quick peak at the numbers...these numbers include walk-ons, so take that for what it's worth.

2018: 19 RB for 3 positions; 23 OL for 5 positions; and 11 WR for 2 positions
2022: 8 RB for 1-2 positions; 23 OL for 5 positions; and 22 WR/TE for 3-4 positions

On the numbers. of those 19 RBS i'd say atleast 10 were WR/RB hybrids and would be slot receivers in most modern offenses. The only thing we were really lacking were tight ends. (arguably big body receivers recruited by CPJ like waller would have been a TE.)

I've never understood why more people don't understand this. CPJ recruited for his system, and was pretty successful at it. CGC is recruiting for his system. In a year or two we will see how successful he is at it. (Early recruiting wins are promising)

As for the hyperbole part, I agree somewhat, the problem being that when someone uses hyperbole in a criticism of CGC the other side comes down hard as well. Easiest thing is for everyone to just drop the constant need to "win" an argument and debate in good faith. Probably won't happen here though...

So if you go back and look at CPJs first recruiting class. The class of 2009. Not looking at defense just offense. It was ranked 49th with 21 players. Offense
David Sims
Stephen Hill
Orwin Smith
Ray Beno
Will Jackson
Jay Finch

So out of 9 recruits on offense I would say he did pretty well with these six.

On defense just for grins
Izaan Cross
Julian Burnett
Jemea Thomas
Not too bad.

Recruiting is a funny thing and yes you recruit to your system.

the hardest part fo me to understand is how/why people don't tire of it. I don't think there has been an original thought in this debate in a year or more.

It's not much different than people who argue politics. The same arguments have been had for years without much changing. People pick their side and just keep going back and forth. We just need to get people back on the same side again. That won't happen until we either start winning or we go a sufficient number of years that CPJ can't be blamed for any of our problems anymore.

It's just a yelling contest at this point, and yelling never fixes anything.

Well, almost never...

Why do so many complain about the same topics being discussed. This is a very narrowed message board about a singular topic - Georgia Tech football. There aren’t a lot of options to discuss on such a narrow topic so of course there is going to be repedition. And in the off season what topics other than re-tread topics are there to be discussed? Isn’t this a break from reality for all of us?

Why do yall have to keep relitigating the CPJ era?
Colorado"jacket" keeps bringing it up. Why? He is a uga grad. If I was on a Tech board as a uga grad, I'd be doing the same thing. Collins is a threat to uga's dominance of recruiting in this state. I'd be advocating that Tech should go back to an offense that is hard to recruit to, just like he does. I wouldn't want recruiting competition from another state school if I was a dwag. I'd attack Collins and advocate for a return to a run based option scheme. Those are his constant themes.

There is no point in attacking Colorado(soon to be Newnan?) Jacket's fandom. His jersey collection and claim to have been a season ticket holder while he lived in Colorado for all of those years speaks for themselves. He supports Tech (and some specific point of views) just like all of us.
