He also said the passing game at Tech was “really simple” and that he needed to improve on mental aspects of the game after being drafted.

Players need to be careful. That simple passing offense is putting people in the nfl. One reason is because its simple it allows raw athleticism to take over and shine and players play faster and more physical because of it. Which makes them look even better. Sometimes over complexity makes a great athlete slow.

Never bite the hand that feeds you. Now i am not even suggesting waller is taking shots. By his own admission he underachieved due to his own faults. But in general its not coincidence we are rolling em in

I like that Waller said this. I wish more college players that had some trouble with suspensions talk about them if they make it to the Show. Getting caught breaking rules and having to sit out a game might not seem like a big deal to a underclassman, but it can affect your future development in a lot of ways. Players need to know there is a bigger picture, and wisdom from someone that made it like Waller would be invaluable.

I have to agree with Waller's sentiment about being drafted. I doubt anyone on this board would have said Waller was draft material back in 2013. In fact, had Smelter not gone down, I doubt we would have seen what a great target he was. Funny to think about.

Hope Darren stays on the 53 man! That TD the last game couldn't have hurt.

We just had my company's fantasy draft...I might snag Waller with a waiver wire pickup. Kid's got potential to be a good red zone target.

Waller's development from the time Smelter got injured, to the combine, to the draft, and now in an NFL camp is one of the more fascinating transformations I've seen from a GT athlete.

CPJ was touting Waller's potential as early as his freshmen season. We really didn't get a glimpse of his potential until the latter portions of 2013 when he was probably our best WR down that stretch. I thought he "got it" from that point, and would combine with Smelter to give us a lethal 1-2 WR combo...unfortunately, immaturity got in the way and he was suspended to start 2014. By the time he came back, Smelter became JeT's security blanket and Waller wasn't really a presence. Then Smelter got injured, and Waller was pretty close to dominant the times JeT threw his way. Physically, he's almost impossible to cover 1v1...as a recent practice in Philly showed:



In the last preseason game, when they threw his way, they either got a pass interference call or a catch. He's a matchup nightmare, and probably already one of the more promising endzone threats in the NFL as no DB can defend him on jump ball situations. It's a role I thought we should have used him more in.

Glad to see he's finally performing to the potential CPJ has always tagged him with. Now, let's hope Shamire Devine starts to realizes the vast potential he has and takes that mythical CPJ spread option RG position to the next level.

Good read but it bothers me when in one paragraph Waller states he didn't do enough in college to get better but then later states that it was the programs fault he isn't better. Maybe he catches a few more passes or becomes the number one receiver if he had tried a little harder.
