I think GT fans who pay attention know it's not the offense that's the problem. It's the other side of the ball.

If our defense was just average during CPJ's tenure, this team probably has a couple more 10+ win seasons, and possibly another ACC championship. The Tevin Washington years would certainly look much different than how they turned out.

I think you really see this when you look at PPD on O and D through the years. I also put App St DPD to get excited of potential with CNW.
Year - Record - OPD - Rank - DPD - Rank - App St DDP - Rank
2017 - 4-6 - 2.20 - 57 - 2.18 - 66 - 1.76 - 34
2016 - 8-4 - 2.61 - 32 - 2.30 - 71 - 1.49 - 10
2015 - 2-9 - 1.86 - 85 - 2.32 - 80 - 1.44 - 13
2014 - 10-3 - 3.37 - 4 - 2.45 - 93 - 2.22 - 75
2013 - 5-6 - 2.32 - 49 - 2.26 - 79
2012 - 6-7 - 2.82 - 18 - 2.55 - 84
2011 - 7-5 - 2.78 - 17 - 2.34 - 81
2010 - 5-7 - 2.17 - 55 - 2.17 - 66
2009 - 10-3 - 2.95 - 8 - 2.42 - 88
2008 - 7-4 - 2.17 - 48 - 1.92 - 52

Maybe I'm putting a little too much pressure on, but am I the only one thinking that this could be like Bob Stoops joining Steve Spurrier at UF in the 90s? Steve Spurrier wanted the ball more, and Bob Stoops gave it to him....

I also wonder whether Woody knows that he's only got to stop 8-10 drives a game. Can make the numbers look really good, and also lets you be more aggressive because you're guys won't have to play as many snaps and can rest 8-10 mins between drives.

To circle back to a post I made earlier, The Athletic — which boasts Seth Davis, Stewart Mandel and for you seamheads, Jayson Stark and Peter Gammons among its staff — is delving into the college coverage ranks. They lured Seth Emerson away from the AJC's DawgNation site to ... cover the Bulldogs for them. He was one of their first college beat guy hires.
Haven't heard if any other colleges will be getting similar treatment. So I don't know if The Athletic, if it decides to plant its flag in Atlanta to cover Atlanta pro sports, will widen its playing field with a hire to cover Georgia Tech.
