Coach says he isn’t worried about TQM throwing the ball and that we just had a bay and need to correct some fixable issues.

Enough for me. Let’s see this weekend.

Then the ol' ball coach has some s'plaining to do. He for danged sure was worried about it after Saturday's game, and I don't think it improved in two days.

I would guess CPJ wants his QB to have some confidence and will say what he feels is necessary to get his QB's head rite!

I agree, he’s trying to instill confidence which I think he should and I do think he really feels like TaQuon is a more capable passer than he showed Saturday. But I also think the old adage that a lot of Tech fans have that ‘CPJ is a straight shooter, take everything he says as truth’ can be challenged here. He was concerned Saturday and he’s still probably concerned, but as much of straight shooter as he is (which I love) doesn’t mean that he doesn’t say things for the sake of his players. Which means you still have to take certain comments that he makes about players with a grain of salt.

I have visions of TStan telling CPJ that the fans would probably like to hear a more optimistic message about the progress of the team. Maybe this isn’t the case but a slightly more positive message might help improve ticket sales.

Agree completely. You said what I was trying to say, only more eloquently.

Yeah, that’s not happening
Remember a few years ago - when Vad Ler was QB, and PJ would say “the quarterback ain’t the problem” even tho it kinda was.
Winning drives ticket sales - not the coach’s words on a show

I'd say that maybe, just possibly, CPJ looking at the film and breaking down everything that was going on associated with the passing game might have altered his opinion of which players/units had most of the culpability with the poor passing. Or I could be wrong.

I think the simplest, and best, answer is that CPJ said what he meant each time.
Both before and after the game, CPJ said that Marshall can pass the ball well enough for us and has shown it in practice.
After the game, CPJ said that Marshall passed awfully.

Translation: Marshall has shown in practice that he can pass the ball well enough for us but did not show it satisfactorily in the game. He had a bad game.

Bad Translation: If Marshall's game performance was awful, then he can't throw it well enough for us. Therefore, every positive word from CPJ about him must just be hype for the sake of the player.

Is it just me, or did coach seem a little concerned about the USF game? Maybe it's me. But, I picked up a level of concern.

He doesn't EVER really give other teams locker room fodder and is generally pretty respectful about the opponent. I think a lot has to do with his view on holding the players accountable for the outcome AND the process (See him throwing shade at the unintended double block that resulted in our 1st TD last week). He wants the guys doing their assignments so there never is a "too low of competition to matter" scenario.

That said, I think he understands the importance from a momentum and team mood moving forward. We need to win this game in a no questions type of fashion. Don't need to pitch another shut out, but need to not come away feeling like an area on D was exposed or an area on O remains a concern.

He didnt seem all that cheery about TM on his weekly presser, basically saying we won't throw deep if we dont have to. But that he has seen TM in practice and knows he can do it. I am buying the motivational theory.

If he said that it is in direct conflict with his offense and the tactics he has explained and used in the past. When he catches the safeties cheating up, he will throw deep. And "have to" will have nothing to do with it. And the question remains: can we hit it?

What he said was that if we aren't any good at it we won't be throwing it very much. Seems pretty logical to me...but he's also not stupid. 3rd and 16 constitutes a passing play.

Honestly, I'd love to see us utilize some of the passing plays we've had in the past that we don't see a lot anymore. Jalen Camp seems like a great candidate for a smoke route...would love to seem some of those old screens we used to run with Dwyer going to Benson. i.e. passes that should be easier to complete.

We passed a screen to Benson this past Saturday, and I think we ran the play another time but it was blown up.

I don't know if that double block was intentional or not...but it was beautiful and consumed 3(!!) ASU players.
