The NFL has those rules because it is a huge advantage for them to have Colleges develop players at the college's expense. The NFL is already the richest and most profitable pro league and this arrangement just magnfies that advantage. Also physical development to be big enough to be in the NFL is more important in football than in any other sports (particular line play). All this being said, I wish there was a pro football minor league and not have what is going on in college football today.

So true. I have a pile of Georgia relatives and know a pile more. They could care less about academics in relation to the football team. They openly bragged for years about their bagman.

There's a proud fan attitude toward many of the top programs that aligns with the adage "If you ain't cheatin you ain't tryin." Probably been that way since competitive sports existed.

No self-respecting Tech fan would ever be satisfied with a program that operates like that. Especially not somebody who got out at GT. The UNIVERSITY of Georgia should not be allowing this to happen. These dudes are using millions of taxpayer dollars and not even getting a horticulture degree. The State of Georgia should be stepping in and saying that’s unacceptable, but as long as they win nobody cares.

Brent Key wouldn’t be able to live with himself if only 41% of his seniors were graduating. That’s a joke

I think if they were actually wasting taxpayer dollars there would be more of an outcry, but I don't believe that's the case since schollys are funded by the AA. I agree that Key wouldn't accept that rate though.

Given that the cornerstone of our GTAA is the Total Person program, and Key makes a big deal about maximizing a player's potential on and off the field, that statement is 100% accurate. I think a high majority of GT fans would be upset if our academic success rate was even at 60%.

They’re using dorms and facilities built for STUDENTS. Even if they never step foot in a classroom, GA taxpayers are subsidizing their football program.

I am very glad at the end of this year that there is at last some grassroots revolt — even here on Swarm with more members speaking out — against the nature of collegiate athletics, including that against NIL, transfer portal free agency, and perhaps even against obscene salaries and monies for vis-à-vis paying coaches for not coaching and the role of conference and media power players. Not that the system will change in a season, but a return to the purpose and perspective of college education and collegiate athletes has got to start somewhere ..

So are you saying their scholly's don't pay for their dorm rent? I thought they did. Also, their football facilities are paid for via donations or revenue from the program. At least GT's are because I contribute to the funding initiatives.

I think a case can be made only at the margins - that the marginal cost of a non-student attending a class increases the cost to have that class by some marginal amount. It wouldn't be much considering the ratio of athletes to regular students.

GT could start by simply fielding a team of players who were accepted to GT thru the normal student admission process. We wouldn’t win a game but some of you could thump your chest about GT doing it the right way I guess.

By state law, 10% of the budget comes from the school. That's why it's considered a public entity, thus subject to the open-records act. Once these AA's became separated from the University and are actually private entities leasing the school name, all kinds of shenanigans are going to happen because they reporters won't be able to get information like coaches' salaries, payments, etc.
