They gone.... the buffs will play big 12 games in 2024.
That makes 13 in the Big 12. I wonder if Utah follows BYU and becomes #14.

How many teams do you need to have a league championship game? Used to be 12, but I think they changed that. Pac12 down to Pac9 with full member schools.

How many of you knew that the University of Alabama competed in the Big12?

I think Utah holds out for B1G. But I could see Arizona might go Big 12

Someone in the online media mentioned a Pac 12 school that is not a 4 corners school would also go to Big 12, speculation it was OR ST, I would guess AZ myself. Seems Utah people say they're not going to Big 12, at least at this time. Utah is an AAU school but not a really good media mkt so I question Utah going to Big 10. Makes you wonder where they end up, hard to see Pac 12 remaining as a viable conference for them to stay in especially with no TV money. Now that ASU is AAU and in a top 10 media mkt they eventually end up in Big 10 IMO. I see USC, UCLA, ASU, WA Pac12 to Big 10, not sure about OR, Stanford or Cal, they could or could not end up in Big 10. Supposedly Bay area people do not watch sports that well.

Wouldn't AZ and AZ St be four corners schools? I was wondering if Oregon or Washington would make the jump

I know it looked like I contradicted myself but not really, I was quoting in one and my opinion in other, probably could have written it better. Yes, I understand 4 corners to be AZ, ASU, CU, Utah. If Big 10 wants OR and WA personally I feel they would jump to Big 10 in a heartbeat. Anyone know if Big 10 has qualified/approved OR and WA?

I’m 26 and also hate sports shows when they aren’t showing sports. Older guys- has it always been arguing for the sake of arguing? Or is this more congruent with recent cringe/clickbait culture trends
I'm about a decade older than you, so can't speak for pre-2000, but the "arguing for the sake of arguing" has been going on since at least the early 2000s. Just like the politics shows.

Once you have a 24/7 channel to fill up but not that much actual *news* happening per hour, the bull**** multiplies to fill the space. See also MTV moving away from music etc etc.

The Big10 didn't want Oregon or Washington last week. Why do you think Colorado going to the Big12 all of a sudden makes them attractive?

The ACC should snag up Washington, Oregon, Cal and Stanford
I don't think any of those schools would sign the long ACC GOR. Modifying the ACC GOR would open the doors for more expansion by the Big10 and SEC. That would mean that the only way to get those schools into the ACC would be to set it up so that at least half of those schools would almost immediately leave the ACC along with 4-8 other teams leaving the ACC. There are probably some schools in the ACC that would want that result, but not enough to vote it through. The current ACC, plus those schools is a long shot.

Maybe adding those Schools could bring about an agreement by a majority of ACC members to renegotiate the GOR with a shorter life?

90’s ESPN was more interviews, and replays of old games. There were sports round tables every week with a bunch of reporters and anchors. Someone figured out that it was boring talk and arguing, and that they could have 90% arguing with just two people for less money and better ratings

It’s probably the iPod that killed music on MTV—you got the new songs off the internet and didn’t need TV. What the iPod didn’t kill, YouTube did

Seems like a good time for a conference commissioner not to be distracted by a lawsuit

Seriously, that Northwestern lawsuit couldn’t come at a worse time for the ACC. Ironically, it may have more impact on us than the B1G

That is basically what I was saying that I don't think will get the votes. There was an article this week or last about Disney looking to sell or spin off ESPN in large part because of the rising costs of the broadcast rights. ESPN is bringing in less money while having to pay out more money. It was reported earlier this year that the SEC pitched a 9 game conference schedule to ESPN to increase the TV payout, but ESPN told them that they will not pay any more even if they get an extra conference game. There was also an article this week that listed multiple reasons that the rise in TV revenue is not sustainable. That article said that the long ACC-ESPN contract might actually benefit the ACC in the long run. They would still be behind the Big10 and SEC, but could end up being far ahead of the Big12 and Pac12 (if they are still around) because the next round of broadcast contracts is not likely to be as lucrative as the present.

I doubt he's spending much time or energy on the NU lawsuit. There will be lawyers for that, and he was so far removed from the day-to-day goings-on within the football program that even naming him is farcical. It's all lawyering by the Plaintiffs' counsel. If he were still at NU, this would be a different conversation.

I think this has more to do with media companies. There is a long history of channels/stations that have a niche market that become profitable in that niche who then try to grow and expand the audience. The result is usually that the profitability tanks, but the audience grows. Then sometime later, the "growth" audience that was pulled in by some gimmick leaves. That happens after the base core audience had long left because their niche was no longer served. A sample list: TechTV, Headline News, MTV, ESPN.

This isn't saying Phillips is involved or had any clue with what went on at NU with regards to the accusations, but he was at NU until 2021. The plaintiffs' timeline is from 2018-2022...that's 4 of the 5 years Phillips was still AD there.

At the end of the day, the AD is responsible for the entirety of the athletic department. Personally, to me at least, it seems Phillips is genuinely a good person, so I doubt he would have let that go on knowingly. However, since he was AD during most of that term, there will be bullseye on him from the plaintiff's lawyers...and NU, seeing how their leadership has been cowards so far in responding to all of this, could look to shift some blame on Phillips knowing that he's now removed from the program just to absolve and shift some of the heat from themselves. Which means, whether Phillips was involved or not, he's still going to get heat from the media, lawyers, fans, and former players.

I agree with all of this and will add that I also think this is good reason to be skeptical of the $90m- $100m per team projections being touted by the presumptive “Power 2.” Maybe they get there, but I remain skeptical at this point.

If ESPN doesn’t have cash to toss to the SEC for a 9th game, they don’t have cash to toss at the ACC for added matchups with PAC teams.

If ESPN really is about to be sold, we will find out really quickly what the profit centers are. My gut says they may have overpaid a bit for the SEC and that the ACC might be more lucrative to them. If that’s the case, between profitability and GOR, the ACC really isn’t going anywhere (much to the chagrin of the “Magnificent 7”).

ESPN won’t do away with either the SEC or ACC deals, but if they attempt to restructure, it could get interesting. I just have a feeling that several of the ACC schools clamoring for changes might be negotiating against their own interest.
