This could be a disaster for St. John's and also tells you what a mess it already is when a high level recruiter with NYC ties is willing to leave his alma mater.

I spent the weekend watching NCAAT with some midwest folks who are pretty well connected at Marquette, tOSU and Indiana. They are of the opinion that no one in their right mind would hire Crean. According to them (and they have first hand experience with TC), he is a disaster on all levels. They believe his rep is known far and wide and he is likely to take his buyout money and do some TV gig.

I can't see Crean on TV. Seems too weird-ish. His odd personality really comes through in his facial expressions/mannerisms. He could end up at VCU or one of these 'pretty good but not that good' jobs maybe if the behind-scenes stuff about him are true.

Tangential rant based on some personal reasons, but **** VCU fans. They have a great program and will likely continue to have one, but after years of loyalty, Shaka left for a top 10 job and they turned on him with such ridiculous spite & anger, ****ting on him on the way out, that they get what they deserve with Will Wade leaving. My only regret, for spiteful reasons, because I'm thrilled with what my least wanted candidate did this year, is that we didn't do this to VCU last year.

Something we should all remember... the day is gonna come that CJP leaves. He hasn't done much yet, but he's already removed a lot of tarnish from his rep. When that day comes, in a week, a year, a decade, or his retirement, let's wish him well & move on without the ****ty attitude that VCU fans show because they think their such a powerhouse.

Will be interesting to see Wade's contract details.
Big thread on Tigernet today was that Clemson went after Wade Sunday night. Alums wanted to hire him before LSU and were willing to help with Brownell's $3.5MM buyout.
They offered Wade $1.75MM per yr for 6 yrs. He said no. expected to get $2.5MM+.
Once he turned them down they kept Brownell.

Got to know the market. No way was Wade going under $2MM, that is not where the market is this year.
Now they have put Brownell in a place with 3 yrs left on his contract and the knowledge that they are not 100% happy with him. That is not going to help recruiting 2018.

Expected to be 6years/$12MM. We probably need to give CJP a raise at this point. $2MM is and has been for quite some time, going rate for a quality ACC head coach.

No surprise that LazyAD **** the bed on bringing Wade home to Clemson. He doesn't care about hoops.

My expectation is that if Pastner has another solid year next year there is likely to be upward momentum in his contract. He has one more year of getting paid by Memphis and we have one more year of paying Gregory. That feels like a nice confluence of events where we take the money we save from Gregory and use it to mostly replace what he was getting from Memphis.

if you include what he got from both schools he made about $2.23MM this year not including incentives. Next year will be slightly higher since he has an automatic $100K raise in his contract.
If after next season you take the money from Gregory and add it to his current contract he would be looking at $2.3MM for the 2018-2019 season.

Pastner is making good money from 2 schools right now. We got 2 more years of Hewitt left? I’d be waiting those 2 years for a raise rather than next year.

Mike Hopkins finally got sick of the Syracuse 'coach in waiting title' and took the head coaching job at University of Washington. Jim Boeheim's contract was extended through 2021-2022 season. Five more years of the salty clown. The only thing worse than getting caught flat footed, is making the same mistake again. Over 100 vacated wins, deteriorating brain function, deteriorating performance on the court. Fake Coaching. Sad!

I got my popcorn ready for @CuseJacket response. In the meantime ...

Monmouth head coach King Rice on fire right now at Duquesne. Sounds like this one is really close to getting done – stay tuned…
Is that a step up for Rice?
Worst kept secret out there is the first four to interview at Cal. They are: Nevada head coach Eric Musselman, Montana head coach Travis DeCuire, UC Davis head coach Jim Les, and UC Irvine head coach Russell Turner. I’ve also heard that former UCLA and St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin is making a push here.
Turner is the move there, IMHO

I really like Dauster. I didn't know about this podcast. I'll give it a listen for sure

Most interesting comment in the podcast to me was the chances of Buzz Williams taking the Oklahoma State job. He seems to be doing a good job at Va. Tech, so that may be helpful to us.

Ooh, that is interesting. OKSt has money to make it interesting and IIRC that's the part of the country he's most familiar with.

I don't necessarily want the league to be losing good coaches though.

Yea I agree. VT being good solely relies on Buzz Williams. We don’t need VT to be great, we just need them to be about how they are now.

When Buzz left Marquette he brought Ahmed Hill with him. He currently has a 5* and a 4* signee on board at VT. I wonder if he would try to poach them as well. The Cowboys have a nice class already signed and another 4* commit waiting to sign (if everyone hangs on with OSU).

I wonder how many kids commit to coaches rather than schools. Does anyone have a guess?

A guess on how many kids commit to coaches rather than schools? I'd say about 95% commit to coach.

I think we all expect Buzz to be a short term deal at VT or whatever some of you guys call it. I think he's a great coach and great for the league but I just don't see him staying there very long.

Honestly, I expect him to leave for a major TX program. OKSt has the money and may be close enough for him. I'd miss his potbelly and his nifty little sweaters though.

If someone is going after Williams they'll probably need to pay him Hall of Fame coach money:

Heading into his third year at Virginia Tech, Williams agreed to an amended contract that runs through the 2022-23 season, at which point Williams’s guaranteed salary tops out at $3.3 million. The new deal increases his 2016 salary to $2.6 million thanks to a newly incorporated retention bonus of $100,000 on Aug. 1. Williams earns another $100,000 retention bonus in April 2017, and bonuses of $200,000 each subsequent April.
