Don't remember where I saw it, but I did see a tweet last week by someone that felt Crean would be a horrible fit at LSU (or any Deep South school). Felt his personality is a bad fit.

Also, whispers in the last 24 hours are that Clemson is considering pulling a UGA and possibly firing Brownell and trying to hire Wade before LSU does.

FWIW, If Crean did take the LSU job, LSU has signed 2 4-star SF from LA, so I wouldn't see them as a good landing spot for Tucker. They really need a PF badly.

They where whispers on the Syracuse board earlier this year that Boeheim didn't really want to retire and was considering making a stink next year to keep his job. What happened this weekend makes me think there is some validity to that.

I suspect Hopkins decided it wasn't worth it to wait out and see if he really got the job or not.

I'll also add that the whole coach in waiting thing has not worked out well.
Remember Muschamp was coach in waiting at TX.
Franklin was coach in waiting at MD.
Something always seems to happen.

I have this gut feeling that Boeheim might turn into Bobby Bowden and overstay by 3-4 yrs. But he clearly wants to go out on his terms.
Wonder if watching Calhoun being forced to retire at UConn hardened his feelings at all.

DRad is too lazy and signed Brownell to a bad contract.

I'm assuming you're being straight with this and there's no hidden humor here. I don't know Brownell's contract, but if DRad would allow a contract that handcuffed him after seeing what Braine did with Hewitt, there's no helping him...

No hidden humor. Brownell is a decent coach, might fall in to the BG category of being in over his head, but DRad signed him to a generous, long term deal a few years back. He did this because he's lazy.

Brownell's contract started with a $5MM buyout. That reduced to $3.5MM this offseason. it falls to $3MM after next season holds there another year and then drops to $0, though it would have to be renegotiated before that point since it runs through 2020.
From a money standpoint this would have been one of the points to seriously think of making a change since the buyout drops.

slug, @dtm1997 is a super huge DRad fan from way back. You can tell based on his avatar.

As a fan of chaos in general, I really want to see both Clem and UGA fire their guys even this late in the season.

Lastly, @CuseJacket tears are quite thirst-quenching.

Anyways, on topic, do we think any open spot is holding off waiting for any active coach's season to finish?

Agreed on what happened. It was also rumored publicly earlier in the year that Boeheim asked for more years and he had to come out and deny it. I also think Boeheim and Hop have been honest with each other the whole way. Same reason Hop interviewed at Charlotte, USC, Oregon State, etc while still holding the Head Coach in waiting title.

Kevin Ollie did alright as coach in waiting and got a title. Hard to say if UConn's recent slide is a result of the HC transition or transition to the AAC. I personally feel it's more the latter, as much as I dislike UConn.

Glass half full - At least now Syracuse has a consistent vision to pitch in recruiting. And if Boeheim can get to 2 Final Fours in the next 5 years as he did in the last 5, I won't just be happy, I'll be "throw it in @kg01's face, change his avatar, and give Peac rights to post under his handle" happy.

@slugboy - I can write a PhD thesis on why LazyAD sucks and how he may have ultimately had the biggest contribution to our long term basketball malaise.
Yeah, I know. There's just no "Ironic Sans" typeface or font, so sometimes I just don't know if I'm missing the wry intent of a post. Having seen the Hewitt contract, making even a quarter of that mistake again is just mind boggling. It's like eye-witnessing a train collision and then straddling the tracks with your car 3 months later.

Interesting chatter on the Clemson board.
What is being whispered is that some big names wanted to hire Wade but that Wade used them to get a better deal, so now DRad is keeping Brownell because Wade is not coming.
if any of that is true have to think the bigger deal will be the LSU gig, but we'll see.

Also, this is just a fun read from the IND SB Nation site. On some of the rumors around Alford and IND. My fav part is the linked article to Greg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star who is reporting that coaches are telling him they think it will happen and that Adidas is involved (note Adidas is heavily rumored to have gotten Miss St linked up with Ben Howland). UCLA was an Adidas school until UA won the new contract. IND is an Adidas school. Adidas is rumored in the article to be willing to pay Alford's 7.8MM buyout to have him leave UCLA (no longer one of their schools) and bring him to IND (one of their schools).

@jeffgt14 I'd take LSU over VCU although IMHO VCU is the better basketball job. Low SEC expectations + money = long career

@dtm1997 I know you're interested in Dan Ridiculous' statement on keeping Brownell ...
Clemson keeping Brad Brownell. Here's a statement from AD Dan Radakovich: "As part of a comprehensive season-ending review and evaluation, I met for several hours with Brad Brownell to review the recently completed season and to look ahead to 2017-2018. Both of us believe strongly that we should have achieved more this season and Brad is candid with his own critique and assessment. As we move forward, I expect Brad to make changes in the program to better position us for success. He continues to represent Clemson University with integrity and class, and we will continue to do all that we can to help him as we expect to achieve consistent success with our men's basketball program."

Thank me later, bro (y)

That statement annotated:

"As part of a comprehensive season-ending review and evaluation, I met for several hours with Brad Brownell to review the recently completed season [it seemed like three seasons, it was so long and hard to endure] and to look ahead to 2017-2018. Both of us believe strongly that we should have achieved more this season and Brad is candid with his own critique and assessment [of where these teenagers failed to live up to their potential and the coaching he invested in them]. As we move forward, I expect [ordered] Brad to make changes in the program to better position us for success [defined as making the NCAA Tournament as something better than a play-in team]. He continues to represent Clemson University with integrity and class [without detracting too much from the sport that really matters in South Carolina], and we will continue to do all that we can to help him [have access to the job market if he fails to meet my expectations] as we [it certainly better be "we"] expect to achieve consistent success with our men's basketball program."
