Minihan graduated and is moving on. We lose 3 full time starters on the OL - Minihan, Johnson and Cochran and a part-time starter when healthy in Cooper. We get one tackle back in Williams and Vaipulu started 5 of 8 games he appeared in last season. Lay started 5 of the 10 games he played, not sure if he is back or not.

On the DL we lose 3 starters - Ivey, Domineck and Brooks as well as 2 others that had starts - Griffin and Lockhart. From a starters standpoint we lose even more on the DL with 33 of the 40 starts gone.

On 247sports Gibbs is the #6 rated player in the portal and Ivey is #59. Ahmari Harvey is the highest rated incoming player for GT at #98.
Wow, when laid out on "paper" like this, its pretty depressing...

4 wins and he keeps his job guaranteed, this may not be popular opinion, but Tstan does NOT want to have admit he WAS wrong. I just dont see CGC getting fired with 4 wins given the schedule we face next year.
Now schedules are going to be our excuse!
Before we were told that we would be elite, if not right away, then certainly by year four.
TStan has got to produce or his reputation is gone.

That’s grim.

Would you like to make a friendly wager on that? If Geoff only manages 4 wins, I highly doubt T Stan will be there either to allow him to keep his job. You are talking about a 4 year period that would be far and away the worst in Georgia Tech's entire football history, with numerous record lows, and likely would not include even a single win over an FBS opponent with a winning record in that span.

So you are saying that IF we win 4 or 5 games next year and CGC keeps his job that GT football as we knew it will never be able to recover? Why is that the tipping point.
Because we have already passed the tipping point.

And there are no excuses left when the original goal “from day one” was to field “an elite team” showing “maximum effort” and creating “a winning culture.”

After rushing hiring a new staff tstan and cgc acted like they had lots of time and were the consummate nice guys.

Why accept the new 19 class into the changed playing style? Why not get rid of a lot of old they did not process the players who might struggle from the old offense. Go to the tough guy and clean house wiht appeal to getting quality portal sized players. They decided to be nice and retool the players but got no credit. lmo, it was unbelievable that in 19 we went the whole season w 3 qbs recruited for previous offense. These 3 had never seen real pt time before 19! Lets be nice and give everyone a shot.

Thacker's stupid = "effort based defense" was a waste of everyone's time.

Thacker's premise was we stay fresh to give max effort on every play because we rely turnovers for winning.
Max effort equals turnovers is stupid. Once teams knew we would try strip the ball the simply covered up and got significant YAC. The Thacker was backwards and lead bad defensive performance game after game. About 3 games before the 100-0 red out i saw Collins yell at Thacker .

Cgc was nice all the time . tstan let him be nice.

Cpj went thru some DCs! Andy told me the story of when cgc decided to fire roof.

Even though its not nice to the present player , there is hope that cgc will be successful in the portal by absolutely promising starting time to get quality players.

Come on OSU tackle.

4 wins next year likely leads to a mass exodus in the portal, it will tank recruiting efforts, and fan support will be at an all time low. The way the schedule lines up will probably keep attendance inflated just enough to where it was this past year. The last home game is Miami in week 10, so even if we’re 3-6 going into that game there will still be a decent crowd because it’s Miami. If we were playing somebody like BC or UVA that weekend and were 3-6 there would probably be less than 50% capacity there.

He’s gotta win at least 5 to hold ground. Less than 5 and there may never be a full recovery. Especially with the entire landscape changing in 2025.

What is that based on? Is it skill, ability or production? A backup player at Bama could be better than a leading producer at a lower quality school. Playing time and production matters. Not saying those 2 losses didn't hurt, but take that stat with a grain of salt.

They were largely our best OL we had last year. Minihan, Cochran and Johnson all started every game they played last year (34 starts in total)
Minihan started 28 and appeared in 34 games over the last 3 seasons.
Johnson started all 21 games he played the last 2 years after starting 19 games and 36 total appearances at TN.
Cochran started all 11 games he played in last season after starting 32 games over 3 seasons at Vandy.
We also lose Kenny Cooper who was injured much of the time but started 4 of 7 games he played in.

So overall GT lost 63% of its starts on the OL. Now our OL was bad, but we are now relying on guys who have alot less experience. Jordan Williams started 8 of 9 games at tackle. Vaipulu started 5 of 8 games at guard. Weston Franklin played in 5 games as a backup. Pendley started the season opener, but only played in 3 games as a backup after that due to injury. No one else played in a game this past season. Our 2 transfers include one player who has played only a handful of snaps in 3 years and the other had 1 start and 5 appearances (mostly 2 snaps here, 3 snaps there) in his second year at Clemson.
The young guys are arguably more talented, though Johnson was more highly rated than any player GT has signed on the OL under CGC, that is due partly to rated in the same general area overall. They have to step up this year though and play well as a unit with limited prior experience.
Thank you Red, that was my impression from other fans I had talked to. As I understand it, the only one coming back then is Minihan? Now Coach Key can really show his stuff and earn his salary. Never mind, I see where Mikey is hanging up his cleats. Can't say I blame him. This is going to be a tough row to hoe. Hope, Sims has developed eyes on the back of his head, he will need them.

No way, IMO.
