Castellanos quits BC

As I mentioned in another thread, some players don't like Bill O'Brien. It was a concern here when we looked for a replacement for TFG. Tom Brady wanted him gone from New England. He was unpopular at Houston.

He also seems to want a different style of QB than Castellanos. It could be a combination of writing on the wall and being unhappy with the coaching change.
He as an a$$$hole at tech when i was there in the late 90s as the rb coach. A complete *****, self righteous, classic ivy league arrogance. Its only gotten worse.

There is zero doubt in my mind that qb and him are at odds and one factor no doubt is how obrien treats you

No news there. That is the way we have morphed in much of our country.

No longer Honor, Duty, Country. If you believe and act that way you are a loser by some peoples world view. So I'm now a loser, but f them.
Not to take this off topic but it's relevant wrt the transfer portal these days as well, your statement is also accurate towards organizations as well. Whether it's forcing kids out because you couldn't evaluate talent properly or mass layoffs because you made poor business decisions. It's easier to fault the individual but mutual respect runs both ways and the organization is the one with the power.

I won't say it's ONLY about self. There's still plenty of athletes with the right mindset, we've been blessed to have a bunch.

Dontae Smith, Dylan Leonard, Leo Blackburn, Horace Lockett, Jordan Williams, to name a few.
You missed the most obvious team-first player on the whole team, Haynes King. You have to make character a priority in recruiting, especially at GT. Doesn’t matter how good you are, if you don’t fit the culture and identity of a GT man you don’t belong here.

In Houston he came in to a talented team that had won iirc 9 games in 3 years. He did well but over years peaked and started down. He traded a long time good wr for rb and draft pick and press was after him.

He looks and sounds like Belichek but not nearly as smart.

He will be a competent coach but will never have a running qb unlsss desperate.

NIL + transfer portal = mercenary football. If you don't recruit character, this is what you get.

For a long time i have been blessed to be welcomed at gt player parent tail gate.

There i found that we recruit good parents with sons who are good players. Our roster is full of them.

Dont ever underestimate the worth of a Gt degree.

King family is special. His long time coaching dad is fully knowledgeable of injury issues, how it could go bad, but he trusts key, his son, and their plan to recover and get ready for a big bowl game.

He may have shot himself in the foot by quitting during the season. How many P4 teams will take a quitter as a starting qb? He may have to move down a division to guarantee he can start. How desperate will teams like NCSU be? They have gotten on the transfer qb bandwagon. So far hasn't worked out for them. Worked for Miami and ND but no FSU. We are fortunate to have gotten HK.

Nah he’s done enough in his career to get a look somewhere. Possibly P4. Hell I’ve already heard rumors about FSU being a possible destination with how bad their current room has looked this year. Although I guess you could argue whether they’re P4 caliber.

There are more than likely plenty of people in the college football world who know enough about Castellanos and Bill O'Brien individually to believe that Bill is doing what he thinks is best for the team to win and that Castellanos has been a warrior for BC so won't really hold it against Castellanos. Some will see it as quitting. Some will see it as him realizing he needed to do what's best for his present and future by sitting out now that the other QB is healthy and O'Brien has replaced him. And some won't care either way and see that there's a talented QB who fits their system that can potentially help them win right now. It's entirely possible that both Bill and Thomas are doing the best things for their needs.

If FSU wants to change their culture, taking a quitter is not the way to do it

I expect some P4 school will take him (and probably pay him at least a little).
He is from Ware Co so it wouldn't seem out of character for FSU to take someone from that area.
The quitting on his team is a bad look but he has had some really good games on the field. This season he had 18 TD's to 5INT's as a passer, big improvement from last season.
This may be more of a reflection of FSU's QB room but he would probably be the best QB on that roster if they took him.

I’m also not saying some players aren’t mercenary. I don’t think that’s entirely the case with Castellanos—he was getting paid at BC, but I think he might have been able to get more elsewhere (before).
The real question is why he isn't at Tech. Watch one of the BC games from last year. Who does he remind you of? For me, it's easy: Joe Hamilton. Give him the WRs to work with and at least one good RB and let the good times roll! And he's from Waycross. What were Tech recruiters thinking? Probably that he couldn't stick if he got in, I guess. Or maybe the TFG strikes again.

Now, mind, I'm not complaining about our QB room - it's one of the team strengths - or about the cards we were dealt. We have the best QB in the ACC, even when down one wing.

Not "pro style" enough for Geoffrey?

Not much detail here, but looks like he quit after being benched vs Syracuse.

Absolutely wild...
"Player empowerment" is why I do not go to games any more and only watch Tech on television. These players want to be free agents? Good, when you screw up, you should be fired and have to hand back the money. Now you will be "empowered."

I did a quick look. This guy was a FR in the same year that we brought in ZP if the data I looked at was correct. ZP was a higher rated guy and has been hamstrung a bit by a horrid coaching staff, injuries and the decision to bring in HK. Bottom line, there's a million great players and you can't recruit or sign them all.
