"Player empowerment" is why I do not go to games any more and only watch Tech on television. These players want to be free agents? Good, when you screw up, you should be fired and have to hand back the money. Now you will be "empowered."

In Houston he came in to a talented team that had won iirc 9 games in 3 years. He did well but over years peaked and started down. He traded a long time good wr for rb and draft pick and press was after him.

He looks and sounds like Belichek but not nearly as smart.

He will be a competent coach but will never have a running qb unlsss desperate.

He's a very good coach...unfortunately, his ego is writing checks like he's winning national championships and Super Bowls. Look at Boston College this year. They almost beat Missouri and SMU, both on the road. Outside of the VT game, they had the chance to win every game. This is in O'Brien's first season, with a team he didn't take over until February of this season. Which means he's playing with guys he didn't even get to recruit. They'll probably go bowling again this season (need to win one more between UNC and Pitt).

He's going to be a VERY good for BC, but the big question with BOB is whether he stays there for long time or tries to "climb the ladder" again. That's always been his MO, along with his giant sized ego.

More on the situation. It seems like the backup has always been the better fit for BOB's offense, but it's pretty d@mning all around...for Castellanos, BOB's coaching style, and the NIL ecosystem of college football today.

I did a quick look. This guy was a FR in the same year that we brought in ZP if the data I looked at was correct. ZP was a higher rated guy and has been hamstrung a bit by a horrid coaching staff, injuries and the decision to bring in HK. Bottom line, there's a million great players and you can't recruit or sign them all.

Why not? Especially if they are in your own state? TFG is to blame for this, imho.

Castellanos is a stud. He can absolutely fly - the only draw back is his height - listed as 5'9" and that's generous. I agree that he would be a nightmare in Malzhan's system...

I think, based on very little actual knowledge, it was more a question of the type of offense that BC wants to run. Castellanos is terrific talent, but doesn't seem to fit what O'Brien wants out of his quarterback.

This, not to put too fine a point on it, is why a lot of people have doubts about O'Brien. When you show up on campus and find your new team has a QB like Castellanos, you should a) immediately kneel and thank the Baby Jesus for smiling on you, then b) change your O to take advantage of his talent. Why BoB doesn't want to do that is beyond my comprehension. It's not as if he doesn't know how to do it; he simply doesn't want to.

JMO, but I think that changing an O is not as easy as some think. If you have one guy presenting that need, get a new guy. If you have a whole offensive unit presenting that need, change your O. The first is likely BOB, the second was TFG.

I went and did some further reading on this. Apparently (based on a couple of articles I read) Castellanos had been operating the offense at high efficiency (qb rating in the 90s), but got injured and was out for a couple of games. After he returned, the offense went into the tank and his qb rating dropped to the high teens. He got benched and James (played while C was injured) replaced him. This guy apparently throws a very good long ball, and the result is that running lanes opened up and the offense got going again. It seems that James is gonna graduate this year, but BOB wanted to win now and Castellanos was not getting it done after his injury. Good for us....BC will be breaking in a new QB next year.
