Benson came with a lot of hype. So far pretty pedestrian. Some good , some bad. Long was supposed to use his TE a lot. So far not that much. May be he isn't comfortable with what he has.
I think we're seeing more use with Leonard because he's more effective, therefore Long is going to him more. Leonard was hurt in the beginning.

We burn them deep and it all opens up.

UVA sims el fuego 🔥 ?
it’s definitely the team to do it against. uva has looked like we did under collins. pitt and duke are far better teams. winning a game comfortably and sims looking consistent throughout would be a very good sign for us the rest of acc play

I just want to see Sims rear back and actually uncork one. I've never seen him look like he's putting effort into the throw. I wonder, but I bet he could throw a 75 yard bomb in the OL would hold long enough for a receiver to get down there.
the ball he throws JUMPS off his hand sometimes. like the throw to mccollum on the first td was an nfl window that not too many qbs in college have the arm to throw.

i think he could sling one and i hope blackburn or mccollum give him a chance

Sometimes I think Sims throws the ball too hard. Especially on underneath crossing routes, and sometimes on swing passes in the backfield. I think sometimes guys aren’t ready for such a hard throw and end up dropping it, or not having enough time to adjust to it.

I saw him catch a 1st down pass on 3rd and long in one of the games, but I've seen him whiff on a bunch of blocks and drops some hand candy. I was expecting more than we're getting so far.
Finished watching the game last night, and on the 3rd down before Duke returned the punt, Benson got a facemask penalty while blocking. The play didn't gain the 1st down, but it did stop the clock and back us up, which made it a more returnable kick and saved Duke ~30 seconds or a timeout. I don't really like criticizing a player directly, but these mistakes really jumped out to me as being a big boost for Duke's chances.

Yep, there were several mistakes/calls like that at the end. What I find amazing is that we either suddenly started behaving very differently at the end of the game. Or...maybe the refs started making calls differently at the end of the game. One of these two things (or both) have to be true.

Sins of commission on aggressive play need correction. Not a benson fan for other reasons.

Sins of omission - time managment.
During last half (before punt return) with big lead over duke did we really run clock effectively?
Shield blocking on puntwith 3 dl and ol guys - error of commission- on last punt they got big return but the punter and 338# dt made the stop. Was massive shield for punt blocking ever a good plan? The making of the plan needs correction. .

Besides the personnel selection on the punt team the formation was also in question as the gunners (outside players) were moved inside where they got double teamed and not allowed for a quick release downfield. This was compounded when the outside (contain) players did not run their lanes to regain outside leverage. Lots to correct but can be done quickly with the right adjustments. As a coach I spent hours with the punt team running their correct lanes and no excuse for contain people to lose outside leverage. Shout out to Chimedza who made an adjustment on the second punt return to likely stop another TD run back. He saw there was no outside containment and he hustled to get outside and turn the returner inside where there was help. He actually help make the tackle.

The shield punt formation was a direct response to having been picking up punt blocks like they were 2:1 Buy One, Get One.

Key talked about we’ll address it but we only really had a single formation we felt good about rolling out to avoid the. Locks and duke did a good job scheming against it.

We ran nine plays with the clock running on our last three drives. The average time left on the play clock 13.4 seconds. On the six plays prior to the punt return it was 13.2 seconds. While it should have been closer to 5 seconds, it is not as bad as some are suggesting. The worst was the punt where we first lost time due to the penalty and then snapped the ball with 18 seconds left on the play clock.

However during those 6 plays we could have easily run off 30-45 seconds and Duke would not have time to score that last TD. But lots of things can better be figured after the fact. What is important is how we manage the clock going forward. I hope Key puts this issue in with the punt problems and first down yardage so we can continue to improve.

Oh, I agree that we can do better than what we did, but it was not as bad as some are suggesting. Fortunately, it did not cost us the game.

6 plays that could burn 8 seconds is 48 seconds total.. I disagree - they were at 35yd line w 48 to go. I would love for time to expire with them ending at the 35.

Key will get this early snap error fixed along w many other end of game errors of commission.

yep--Benson has been a BOMB.If you watch his play there are numerous and continual poor results. We are seeing why Syr wasn't crying when he left. Oddly we also have 3? TEs on scholly that don't play for some ? reason .

We have Benson and Leonard who play a lot. In the Duke game, Postma was in a jersey but no pads, which would make me think he can't dress out. That leaves Peje Harris and Billy Ward. Billy Ward played against Duke.

Pe’je Harris is hurt. Hasn’t been available for pitt or Duke.
Benson and Harris are the vertical threat TE group.
Leonard and Ward are the more of the blocking type TE group.
