Wait, I'd say the strategy on starters worked quite well. Even with Strider going down, starting pitching was rarely the issue in the regular season.
To me, the issue is they can't bank on it happening again. It seems they're trying to roll the dice again and aren't acknowledging how lucky they got this past year.
A second issue is, philosophically, they focus only on the regular season and view any postseason success as icing on the cake.
If they lose it's, "oh well, things just didn't break our way".
If they win it's, "great, things just broke our way."
Well I know it's a crapshoot of sorts, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't build the team to make it more likely that things break your way.
