Wanted them to win for the $. Too bad Pearl's money dropping seems to be paying off this year. Hope Auburn gets smoked.

Been watching that last play in regulation over and over. It is amazing how it all worked out.
Purdue fouls up 3 with 5.9 left to prevent a 3-pt attempt.
Jerome hits the first.
He purposely misses the second, Diakite gets his hand up above everyone else and bats the ball backward sending it past mid-court.
Clark gains control of the ball with 3.4 seconds remaining moving to his left (his left foot is on the 3-pt line).
He reverses direction and tales a dribble right. ignores both Jerome and Guy who are calling for the ball.
Whips a pass at 1.8 second remaining that is a perfect strike to Diakite where he can catch and release
Diakite gets the shot off with 0.3 seconds left from 12 ft.
it's also amazing to think of what got the game to that point.
Edwards hits his 10th three of the game (28th in 4 games) from the angle that goes in off the backboard. Basically he was way off on his shot, but literally hit the only place on the backboard where the shot would fall in. Anywhere else and the physics would have had the ball missing the hoop.
That may be the best regional final game i've ever watched, what an amazing game and Edwards almost willed Purdue to the win by himself.

I didn't need to be reminded of this. I've felt for a good part of the last month that if Okogie had returned this GT squad likely would have been an NCAA Tourney team given how weak the bubble teams were. He would have started at the 3 all year and been the leading scorer. On offense every team we played would have played us differently trying to slow down Okogie which would mean easier sledding for everyone else on the team. On defense he would have given us another active defender.
But him leaving was just the epitome of GT basketball since 2004 that started with the injury riddled 2005 squad.

One other note on the Purdue-UVA game. UVA made a subtle defensive change in OT. They immediately doubled Edwards every time he touched the ball and did it with their center. Resulted in one TO and made it difficult for him to see the floor over the big man in the halfcourt.
I commend them for holding onto that strategy until late. That's not something you do on the fly so they clearly worked on it to spring it when the time was right.

Good move otherwise the kid may have scored north of 50. He was shooting the ball from almost halfcourt on some of those shots and the cameraman had to zoom out to get it in the picture.

He set the record for most threes made in a Tourney with 28 - in just 4 games.
Glen Rice held the record at 27 over 6 games in 1989. As an FYI, Dennis Scott made 24 in 1990 in 5 games which makes him 4th now all time. Third is Freddie Banks from UNLV in 1987 with 26 in 5 games.
Edwards also shattered the record for avg made per game in the Tourney at 7.5. The previous record was co-held by Stephen Curry and Jeff Fryer (Loyola-Marymount 1990) at 5.75 per game.

Ken Pomeroy did some statistical work on winning probability with 10 seconds left and a 3-pt lead. Whether to foul or not.
it turns out it is basically a wash. in both cases - fouling or not fouling the win probability hangs around 93%. Just sort of the luck of the game if you end up in the 93% based on your decision.
