According to ESPN starting pitcher Max Scherzer of the Nationals wont start in the Braves-Nationals series starting tomorrow:cool: The Nationals Max Scherzer was unable to throw a bullpen session today which means his back is still bothering him:cigar:

Yep. Barring some sort of sudden "fix" to what's ailing him, Scherzer won't be part of this series. They aren't going to send him out there without having thrown a ball since his last start & the treatment he received.

Expect Fedde in that slot Tues. However, the only way to get him up from minors is for a roster player to go on IL. Fedde has not been down (in minors) the minimum 10 days... that requires a player going to IL. Seems that would be Scherzer. But Matt Adams came out of yesterday's game when a ball got his foot. (Xrays inconclusive) So... now Nats may have a 1B problem.

Do you think this injury will bother him all the way to the Wildcard game? A lot of Nationals fans on their message board think this could be about the end of him in the 2019 season. The Braves might have a problem tonight if Ronald Acuna Jr can't play because of his stiff neck from yesterday's collision at 2B.

Acuña told reporters following the game that he plans on being back in the lineup but we will have to wait and see if that happens.

I’m hoping we don’t get Trevor Bauer after he threw the ball over the CF fence before being removed from the game yesterday. He gave up 7 runs in less than 5 innings.

I bet the biggest trade Liberty does is for closer Ken Giles of the Blue Jays while they make a few unimpressive trades for castoffs:cigar: If the Braves don't trade for Ken Giles i would be satisfied if they traded for Raisel Iglesias of the Reds;)

Hey Mike, 2 out of 3 not bad, I'll take it especially with the bats showing some life.
Gausman hit the reality wall yesterday, we need a starter bad !!
Hey Fred, are the Dodgers that good or are you guys hitting a lull ?
Also, with your post above about Scherzer, are the Braves going to miss both he and Stausburg in this series ?

You're right,Jake,i'll take series wins anytime(y) I think Liberty will trade for a starting pitcher or two for the Braves but it wont impress anyone since they wont be top shelf starters:cigar:

I'm not Fred but from what i've read neither Strasburg or Scherzer will be pitching against the Braves;) Here are the Nationals starters for the Braves series

Monday 8-5 Patrick Corbin

Tuesday 1-1 Erick Fedde

Wednesday 6-6 Anibal Sanchez

Yes.. you will definitely not get Strasburg (pitched yesterday) and you will "nearly certainly" not see Scherzer (just waiting on OFFICIAL call on that, I think). I do not think the Nats are into a lull. The Dodgers are that good.

Quick cliff note review of Nats/Dodgers:
Fri: Nats faced Ryu who is a Cy Young candidate with stellar numbers. Nats did nearly enough to win; but LA made some good defensive plays Also, the Nats caught the "hitting it hard...but where they are" disease at some key points in the game. It happens. Disappointing... great ball game, really.
Sat: PUNT. Nats had no realistic chance with Kershaw starting against an "opener" for the Nats (Grace) and a guy (Ross) who's proven he is not MLB material. They scored early on Kershaw, the Nats pitching could not stop the Dodgers, Kershaw settled.. Predictable and game over!
Sun: Strasburg pitches another gem. He's first MLB pitcher to 14 wins and turning into the Nats MVP.

As for this series (w Braves). Sucks that Scherzer is hurt. The pitching situation would be really good for Nats if we had the Corbin, Scherzer, Sanchez rotation and a "rested" backend of bullpen. [Note: one good thing out of Dodgers series, the BP was not pushed.. or at least the top end guys. They should be rested and ready for Braves] With Scherzer out, big advantage to Braves on Tues... but it is baseball and sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle. I'll hope for that.

I expect/hope for another entertaining series. These teams are very similar. Good offenses, solid(ish) starting pitching in the top 3 of rotation... yet very vulnerable bullpens. Makes for some fun baseball with games that can play out in many different ways including big swings (excuse the pun). Fun for the winners and often excruciating for the losers.

As always... good luck guys... let's have fun.

I think the Braves win 2-3 from the Nationals with the loss being to Anibal Sanchez who seems to be magic against the Braves:beercheers:

I like our chances of taking 2/3 with Keuchel and Soroka on the mount in this series and without having to face Strausburg and Scherzer.
The Braves need to get off to a good start tonight facing Corbin. Can someone refresh my memory on how we fared last time we faced Corbin ...

July 19th Patrick Corbin got a no decision against the Braves in a 4-3 loss in Suntrust Park.
