So what say you, those who blaimed the new coaching staff for Parker’s departure?
Although I was told by an insider that he is leaving because he is less than enamored with the new situation, I can't say that I have personal knowledge that that is true. True or not, Parker replied in the classiest manner possible. What is evident is that he is one of the few elite offensive lineman that saw Georgia Tech as the best choice because we ran the triple option offense.

This is such a chicken**** comment. "Insider"

If you, or Parker, or Parker's dad want to clear the air please feel free. Otherwise we will go off the cliche generic public statement that he put out.

It’s a needs issue. It’s the needs of the state that matter, not the needs of the institution. Is there a need for this degree for the people of Georgia, if there is, is it met by other universities?

It’s that way for any degree program consideration. The tail doesn’t wag the dog fellas.

Unless you are u g a......then the state finds a need.

Classy guy... loves GT... doesn’t want to give the school he loves a black eye. Who knows... He did say multiple reasons...
I guess I just don't get why GT fans are trying to play "gotcha" and pin negative things on our coaches. Regardless of whatever happened, the kid chose not to publicly (or privately, as far as we know) crap on our coaches...that should tell you something.

And you are an over-reactionary little girl. There, we're even.;) I heard this from an insider who is not any of the people you mention. I want to keep my sources by not calling them out. I put a qualifier in because it was not firsthand information. If you think I'm a liar begging for attention, then feel free to cut loose. If you think I should have said nothing, tell me to STFU. ;)

Why can't we take his words at face value and let it go? I am sure that is what he wants and deserves.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth to that. Southern Poly (now part of Kennesaw State) use to get the kids that GT didn't accept, but it came to a point that even Southern Poly couldn't accept all the kids that wanted to be Engineers. GT, by way of our elite and selective programs, just can't take in every kid that wants to be an engineer. GT is an elite school and we take in the best from around the world, not just the state of GA. There's only so many seats GT can fill. Same with Southern Poly. The state of GA and the United States overall has had a shortage of not just engineers, but STEM workers for years now. The shortage is a large part why GT gets so many elite applicants every year...kids want a desirable major and they want to go to the best schools they can: GT is one of the best STEM schools in the world. How many of posters on this board wanted to go to GT but couldn't get in?

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-co...ns-think-they-have-a-shortage-of-stem-workers

In a sense it's great for GT because we turn out elite quality STEM graduates and our skills are in high demand. On the other end, it affords UGA a valid excuse to encroach on a territory that was long given to GT. The other side of it is the demand for liberal arts degrees is falling, so it makes it hard for GT to approach the board to expand our "athlete friendly" majors.

If anything, GT needs to be innovative with our major offerings. GT doesn't need to "lower the bar", but create majors that are new and exciting to attract a more diverse student body. A BS in Music or Film technology and science that supports the booming music and film/television scene in GA, BS in athletic performance and biosciences that helps kids that want to pursue careers in sports medicine or be S&C coaches. Create a sports management major within Scheller Business school. It's a relatively new major that LOTS of schools are creating because there's such a large demand for careers in the sports & athletic industry. You get the point.

I don't think GT needs to "lower the bar" by any means. I think kids are willing to do the work if the payoff is something they have a passion for.
There are also "high tech" and "low tech" engineers....mechanical engineers and electrical engineers that design systems for buildings, for example.......probably do not need the elite education that Tech offers.

LOL. I know a few "low tech" mechanical engineers that design and install the mechanical systems for industrial/retail/and office buildings and they millionaires MANY times over.

I know you didn't mean anything disparaging by it, but I always get a kick when I see the delineation between low and high tech engineers.

It is not rocket science to design HVAC systems.....and they charge a fortune....and yes, I know a couple of milllionaire ones myself. They just don't need nearly the rigorous education.....hell, most contractors could design the same systems (and do) except the drawings need that stamp and signature.
The really low tech engineers......Industrial engineers working in the auto plants......(used to always say the I.E. stood for Ignorant Engineer) All they seemed to do was create trouble with the rest of us and also the UAW.

You can get rich doing lots of things (like leaking a porn video, getting *** injections to make it fat, and then giving your kid a dumb name like North). Doesn't meant there isn't a difference between a low and high tech engineer.

I know...dang, we all get hung up on the most inane things (I'm guilty myself) :)

I’m really not sure why GT couldn’t easily double in size. You call what’s existing now the Engineering Honors Programs and then have another independent but closely allied Engineering Schools for people that aren’t gene splicers, rocket scientists, etc. Geez only at GT would people look down their noses at other Engineers because their livelihood didn’t solve some impossible to understand problem. There are regular old Engineering jobs out there after all and forbid me for saying this but a few super brainiac GT Engineers among us take jobs that don’t require elite intelligence like doctors, lawyers, financiers, and even Dominos Pizza restaurant owners.
