I'm just proud of myself that I watched a game in which we lost by 20, slugged most of a bottle of eagle rare and didn't get banned from this board.

That's a successful night for the Cone.
It's gonna be a nice, sunny day at Wrightsville. Take a long beach walk. It'll do you good. I'll be on the beach just north of you.

Doesn't mean much (outside of a moral victory), but I take solace in the fact that we were the only lower seed to advance in the ACC tournament with VT losing to Miami

I think the top 4 teams getting a double bye is just ridiculous. How does the 4 seed deserve that benefit? It need to be the #1 team and that's it and they get 1 bye. OT from last night killed our 2nd half legs

On the other hand, if you want that double-bye be one of the top 4 teams.

With 3 "play in games," the double-bye is stupid. So, you have 6 teams that have to play 5 games over 5 days and 4 teams that have to play 3 games over three days. So, not only does the lower seed have to rise up and play lights out to beat a top seeded (top in the Nation), but they have to do it after playing back-to-back games in the previous 2 days. That's just idiotic. With a 15-team field, the #1 seed gets a bye and you get a 2-15, 3-14, 3-13, etc. tournament match-up. Once we add a 16th team, we essentially have a "regional" the week before the NCAA tourney. With UL out this year, the top 2 seeds get the bye. This system unduely punishes the 'have nots.'

This is just the elite of the ACC trying to protect their NCAA legs. By playing 4 ACC games the previous week, the ACC Tourney finalists will be pretty leg weary at the beginning of the NCAA Tourney. That's just crap.

Gotta wait 'til the tobacco-road teams get effected by it. Then it'll get corrected.

It doesn't unduely punish that have nots. It rewards the teams that took care of business in the regular season. Why should a team that went 13-5 in ACC play have to have the same road to an ACC Championship as the team that went 0-18? They shouldn't. The current system is great, and it makes the regular season that much more important.

Are you kidding me? Man if they set up the bracket where only the #1 team gets a bye then that makes 7 games on day one. What are you gonna start at 8AM and the last one tips-off at 11PM?? It's not practical. Spread it out over two days and half the field gets screwed in the next round. Gotta have byes for the bracket & big picture to work out.

This tourney isn't designed to be shady - it's just basic bracket mechanics. Break out a piece of paper and play with it for a minute before coming on here and sounding ignorant.

Well to call a spade a spade, since you are calling assumptions ridiculous, who says the games have to be on at different times? There are plenty of gyms in the country near where we have the ACC tournament to have the lower rated games. Could have played at Georgetown and the Verizon center this year if they wanted. 7 games on opening day, isn't that what people love about the NCAA tournament? Let's be honest the purpose for the tournament is to make money on TV deals. More games means more money. A low seed making it far means more viewership. Also the beauty of a tournament is anyone can win. Right now the tournament is impossible to an 0-18 team to win. Let's not forget the top half of our conference is playing for bragging rights, they will always make the tourney. The middle teams are the ones playing for an NCAA bid and right now we are stacking the decks against them. More ACC teams in the tourney is good for everyone and for now at least a few teams might have punched their way out of the NCAA with their performance.

Nah that's dumb too. AE 87's idea here makes the most sense as an alternative. (Putting last minute logistics and the challenge of selling-out your arena on two days notice.)

You people who want to magically change the tourney structure are missing a very key point -- nobody wants to watch a 15 vs 2 or a 14 vs 3 or a 13 vs 4 or a 12 vs 5 game in the conference tourney because the lower seed has almost no chance of winning. The low seeds are inevitably gonna get eliminated anyway, so play-in games with good winnable match-ups set up close games and make the tourney more interesting for everybody.

I'm fine with it as is because I'll be going to the next two in Brooklyn. The marathon will be easier than the last time I went in ATL, as I'll be sleeping in my own bed.

It's such a test of endurance, but was a lot of fun, even with a few terrible games.

I like the Tourney as is. Don't have a problem with it.
I liked it better when everyone had at least a fighting chance of pulling an upset and going far in the Tourney. I don't care how you make it work, but a double bye doesn't make for compelling basketball. If FSU had beaten VT, then you'd have FSU (having played 2 games in 2 days prior) playing a well-rested Miami team. How does that make for compelling basketball? That's a blow-out in the making. What it does is stack the odds of a favorite (top 4 team) making it through to the championship game.

Back in the day when there were only 9 teams we had one 8vs9 play-in game. I think NC State won it all one year from that spot. Maybe the best solution is to have 4 play-in games by limiting the field to only the top 12 teams. But even that way your top 4 still get to play one less game. That's just the nature of how brackets work.
