This double bye format is ridiculous. Let's face it--it benefits Duke and UNC, who will almost always be top 4 seeds. Imagine that--the ACC helping UNC and Duke!

I suppose the argument is that it gives a team needing a win to get into the big dance a better chance to get one. A team like FSU this year could make a deep run, but will have tired legs by the time they play their third game against a double bye team playing its first game. This year's FSU could be us a year or two.

dook didn't have a double bye last year, facing Louisville, UNC, & Notre Dame to win it.

agree. The double bye system royally screws up what used to be a great tournament by over-rewarding regular season. Why did they have to go copycat the screwed up big east? Giving the top 4 an almost free ride into the quarter finals just stinks to high heaven. Withholding the top 4 teams from half the tourney games usually means i don't waste my time to watch it b4 the quarters. The best tournaments always have the minimum number of byes. Seed position is the appropriate reward for a good regular season. It's best when each team has a fair chance to win by playing the same number of games.

Does gtswarm have an NCAAT pool on one of the many websites? A private pool with a password might be kinda fun.

It's more likely we play Cuse than BC.

If both teams win today, we play Cuse.
If both lose today, we play Cuse.
If Cuse loses and BC wins, we play Cuse.
If Cuse wins and BC loses, we play BC.

The double bye is a good system.

It means the regular season is really damn important.

We'll appreciate it next year when Jose, Josh, and Devoe lead us to a 4 seed ;)

There's not that much difference between the number 10 team and the number 4 team in this league. The number 10 team has to play 2 games to get to the semis. The number 4 team has to play zero.
You think that's fair? The difference between 10 and 4 can be a couple of poorly officiated games.

Giving only the champion a first round bye is a much better system than the double bye system. That makes winning the regular season, in your words "really damn important." The double bye system doesn't. Finishing 1st or 4th is pretty much the same.

Is a 7-game Day 1 feasible?
