ACC Preseason Media Poll

FSU and Clemson make sense as the Top 2 teams as they have the most on paper talent of any teams in the Conference. With 17 Conference teams and unbalanced schedules it is really hard to predict season totals. GT plays 6 of it's 8 conference games against teams placed above GT. That could be a reason good reason we are picked in the middle. A 4-4 conference record likely gets a team around the middle of the conference final standings. Should be an Interesting year!

Preseason polls are so contrived. Every poll seems to just expect a repeat of the previous year save for “Da U” which is always predicted to be an elite conference contender. They then proceed to barely make a bowl or worse.

I think there is one regularity in these pre-season media polls: both Tech and Wake will be underrated. I think Tech will end up in about the same place as it did last year, I hope with one more win. I also think Wake will win 8 games; they're like Tech in that most of their O and D come back. When they're experienced they're deadly.

I don't understand these ratings beyond the first 4 and a couple off those those are dicey, imho. We'll see.

These rankings are based on only the 8 conference games each teams play. Wake winning 8 total games means they win 4 Conference games.

I suspect at least 8-10 teams will between 5-3 to 3-5. How that sorts out will be based on schedule which doesn’t mean much except I would expect FSU and Clemson to be very good simply based on talent level and proven coaches.

And they are almost always very wrong

They were not very good last year. I think Clawson is a good coach, but that team really wasn't very good. They went 1-7 after we beat them.
And sometimes, having all a bunch of guys back just means they're older. Doesn't mean they're better.

Yeah, I know that can happen. But it hasn't under Clawson. When his teams have experience they win. Their problem last year was replacing Hartman. The new kid - Bachmeier - is the former starter at Boise State and Louisana Tech where he did very well. That will probably take care of the O problems. But we'll see.

Jackets predicted to finish 9th. One first place vote.

Seems about right. Surprised that UNC is 8th. Their talent is always good. Besides the Tar Heel defense will be "effort based" this year. Not sure about FSU without the quarterback but the talent is there. Clemson and Miami should be in the mix. Is NC State really that good? Haven't seen them play since before last year. Virginia Tech finished strong last year. There are a few good teams in the ACC but it would seem to have a lot of pretty bad ones too. Probably a lot more bad ones than good ones.

Damn it there are 8 teams above us and we are playing 6 of them. There are 8 teams below us, most of them pretty bad and we play 2 of them. Christ on His Cross, does anyone in that athletic department have any pull with the ACC? This is ridiculous. I asked my father once why Tech played Vanderbilt, Tulane, Florida, and Kentucky while excluding Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He said that the public reason Dodd gave was money the real reason was he thought he could beat most of those teams but hated the idea of playing Mississippi. He wasn't too crazy about playing LSU but could not wiggle out of that one. Besides a schedule with Alabama, UGA, Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU was more than tough enough.

They know with Collins there UNC is going to lose let's just hope he's the coach in waiting for when Brown retires

Does he ever stay any one place more than a couple of years? Mack already complaining coaches are using his age against him in recruiting. Called out Elko specifically when he was at Duke. It wouldn't surprise me though for TFG to talk his way into the job.

22 Returning starters with some end season momentum and a better defense than we had last season I understand it. I even put some money on it.
Also their schedule? 2, 3, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17. They got the 2023 Louisville treatment from the schedule makers. We would go minimum 6-2 against their schedule but instead we're stuck with 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12

VT is getting soooooo much hype....I'm just not seeing it.
Have you looked at their schedule? They play mostly teams that are picked in the bottom half of the conference. Going by this pre-season poll, their conference games are 2, 3, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, and 17. Their OOC games are: Vandy, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Rutgers. If they can't win 7-8 games against that schedule they are worse off than I think they are.

BTW, GT's in conference schedule is 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12. OOC with ND and the mutts. If you put VT against that schedule, I would be shocked if they won 7-8 games. I also think their pre-season press polling position would be much lower than 6th.

That's true...them and NCSU are great at scheduling a bunch of patsy NC dubs.
