Jordan Goldwire is planning to use his extra year, but will transfer from Duke.

Looks like they will use combo guards to cover the 1 spot next season, most likely DJ Steward and if they get his commit 5* Trevor Keels.
That's interesting. Was he going to lose playing time next season?

Just looking at how teams have performed in the ACC in the last 2+ years (last 42 games, and I chose that because it is the most advantageous to GT).
Here are how ACC teams have performed in ACC games (both regular season and ACC tourney) in their last 42.

FSU and UVA - 32-10
Duke 28-14
GT and L'ville 26-16
Syracuse, NCST and Clemson - 22-20
VT 20-22
UNC and ND 19-23
Pitt 15-27
Miami 13-19
BC 10-32
Wake 9-33

Here's a highly highly unsubstantiated theory that I just made up. It's total nonsense.

With Syracuse having having 3 significant underclassmen reserves entering the portal, this could be an indication that Buddy Boeheim is going pro and Jim Boeheim is retiring with a depleted Syracuse roster.

It's reasonable to think that Jim is not retiring while Buddy is in school. Jim retiring when Buddy leaves makes a lot of sense especially if you think he's staying an extra year or two because of Buddy. Buddy going pro wasn't on the radar a year ago, now it's a reasonable outcome (maybe even a likely outcome).

I can see it happening. Why not leave after one last unexpected tourney run and your son leaving the team for the NBA?

Nope, in fact it's the opposite tin foil hat theory. Jimmy Boeheim Jr. is expected to transfer to 'Cuse. Not making that up. An insider said that's all but assumed to be a done deal by assistants and players alike. And Buddy is already on record to return.

Cuse has a 5* SF coming in. If Guerrier returns, they might actually be net upgraded at forward, even with Alan Griffin's expected departure. Would love for Dolezaj to return but it seems unlikely as he's old and ready to make money. Jesse Edwards finally showed life at C.

The issue is back court depth. They literally have 2 scholarship guards now. Granted, both started and Boeheim is willing to play them 35+ minutes, but that's less than ideal.

If Syracuse brings in Jimmy Boeheim it makes me wonder if we could have 2 of the old guard coaches leave after next season. Having his 2 sons playing for him for 1 year would seem to be a really good way for Boeheim to go out at Syracuse. Though it will be interesting to see how Coach Boeheim would use Jimmy at Syracuse. On the surface he has really good stats - 16.7 ppg, 5.6, rpg. But looking under the hood you see a guy that is a lifetime 30% 3pt shooter, doesn't really generate steals or blocks and is just a 1:1 asst:TO guy. Makes you wonder how well his game will work in the ACC. He does give them some size at 6'8, 215.

Down in Miami, in a little bit different circumstance, it looks like Miami could be in struggle mode again next year. Cross, Timberlake, Olaniyi, Lykes and Brooks are all in the transfer portal. McGusty is testing the NBA waters and could come back if he wanted to, but will he want to with all those players leaving - he's already 23 yrs old. They are waiting to hear from both Rodney Miller and Deng Gak on whether they are going to use the extra year, Miller was in grad school this year. Right now the only guarantee returnees appear to be Beverly, Walker and Waardenburg. Wong is expected to test the NBA waters. if most of those guys leave it is hard to see Larranaga having a winning season next year which would be his 4th straight losing season. Have to imagine at 72 already Miami will decide at that point to start over and begin the rebuild. They have a good recruiting class coming in, but it is all guards and they are really looking to be hurting in the frontcourt.

It feels like Larranaga is way older than 72

I got it wrong, Larranaga is 71. Leonard Hamilton is 72.

Coack K is 74, Boeheim 76, Roy 70.

Pastner remains the youngest coach in the ACC at 43. Pastner is closer in age to Buddy Boeheim than Jim Boeheim - by over a decade.

Right now the ages work out like this
Boeheim 76
Coach K 74
Hamilton 72
Larranaga 71
Roy 70
Brey 62
Mike Young 57
Steve Forbes 56
Brownell 52
Bennett 51
Mack 51
Keatts 48
Capel 46
Earl Grant 44
Pastner 43

Hamilton is in his 70's?!! Dude looks like he's in his 50's. All the while, Charlton Young is watching that FSU clock waiting...

As a fan, isn't our duty to believe that, if we were so inclined, that we could be better than Hamilton, Coach K, John Wooden, Saban, et al? These guys are ok, but c'mon man.
Just think how much better those coaches would be if they had to post their decisions on The Swarm and read the feedback?

Young better be a patient man. Hamilton recently signed an extension through the 2024-25 season.
Young won't even be a serious candidate at FSU when Hamilton retires. They will look much higher than that. Expect Andy Enfield or Dennis Gates to be far ahead of him on the list.
Young's main role is to recruit and he does it well. Stan Jones is the primary x's and o's asst on that staff which is why he has the associate hc title.
I suspect when Hamilton retires whoever is hired will try to retain Young as an asst or he will decide to take another job.

Young is going to have to win as a HC somewhere before FSU would consider him for their HC job. Before he gets a P6 type HC job he is going to have get and win at a mid-major.
