Look at the next 6 - we should be favored in 5 of these...perhaps not @Clemson too. I'd really really be down with a 5-1 stretch. I'm glad we get Virginia on 4 days rest.

Clemson gets us on 6 days rest. Pittsburgh gets us on 4 days rest. Boston College gets us on 3 days rest. Miami gets us on 6 days rest.

Literally all 4 of the games starting after 2/10 our opponent gets significantly more rest than we do.

Clemson stomped Syracuse last night. Possibly, they’re off the skids. That should be a tough game. We might be favored in 3 of the next 5, but 4 would be nice.
A win over UVA would really help our tourney chances.
Other games of note:
  • NCST 81 - BC 65
  • UNC 91 - Duke 87
  • VT 80 - Miami 76
  • UVA 73 - Pitt 66
  • Tenn 82 - Kentucky 71 (Kentucky keeps flirting with turning their season around to look like a quality win, then the wheels come off for them)
You love to see it.

“Brings in elite talent then doesn’t coach them”. How UNC kept their program going after Dean Smith retired was amazing; so many more programs have the coach that didn’t uphold the legacy of winning. What happens when Coach K retires and the next coach doesn’t have a top 10 recruiting class?

Actually Dean set it up so his long time assistant Gutfelt(sp?) Became head coach for a couple of years and were not too bad. They hired Matt Daugherty and they became very average. They fired him and got Roy to come from Kansas. Then became really good again but even he is struggling with the one and done players. Coach K is untouchable at duke as long as he wants to stay. So is Roy. Roy weathered the AFAM scandal so he will be allowed to retire when he wants to.

I love seeing Duke lose more than I like seeing UNC lose. So I watch these games and pull for the team in light blue. A lot of other people watch this matchup every time and ESPN puts it in the feature slot. No matter how much we hate both of these teams, they are money teams for ESPN and the NCAA. The tournament selection committee has its hands full this year trying to put Duke in the field without putting ACC teams in that beat Duke or are ahead of them in the standings. It will be interesting.

Really in the ACC, any team can win on any night. Miami sucks donkey genitals - but they’ve beat NC State, Duke, and Louisville. They’ve also lost a ton of games by just 1 basket. They could easily be in the top 5 in the conference with some different luck. It’s going to be an absolute dog fight in every game.

Well in fairness, Mack Brown was the lead original architect of the AFAM scheme. That UNCheat immediately hired him back at their first opportunity tells us all we need to know about that place and their culture.

Not that it’s the most advanced basketball analysis, but Sagarin (credit to Sagarin, see the link) puts us in middle/below average for the ACC. It’s one litmus test for the next few games, but we’re at least ahead of most of the competition in the upcoming gauntlet.

I have lived in Chapel Hill for over 40 years. The AFAM scandal included all the sports teams at UNC. WBB was really tied in with it. Very few athletes didn't at least take one or more of those classes. Easy A. They did everything possible to keep it away from becoming a big problem for MBB. Football took the biggest hit at first when the NCAA investigated Butch Davis. That's when it all came out. It permeated the entire academic support and tutoring staff for the athletes. It went on for 18 years. One can only wonder how these remote classes are now being manipulated.

Oh, come now. We all know that regular students at (u)NC are exploiting remote classes to get easy grades, too—so it can’t be an NCAA infraction if the AA helps SAs do so...

granted that sagarin doesn't have a lot of useless metrics like some others, but still it's rare to see any opening line that differs from the predictor column by more than 1 or 2 points. it's a nice feature to be able to sort by conference.

It says something about my preferences that I went for the rating that was easiest to filter and sort by conference...

I'm all in favor of proper COVID protocols, but this seems a bit unfair to BC almost getting thrown to the wolves.
I agree. The competitive balance in ACC has been lost when BC is playing with four scholarship players and UNC is not when two guys "appear" to be bypassing the recommendations. Now GT is playing games with one day of rest. There is a sense of fairness that has been ignored this season that was not inevitable.

Well, if the two kids from UNC are going to be that wreck less then they should be suspended. I also think in situations like this, if a team is responsible for causing a postponement and the game can’t be made up they should be forced to take a loss! No reason for the opposing team that followed all the needed regulations and guidelines to be punished.

I am not sure what is the correct response, but I doubt these two young men are the first to violate the rules regarding COVID-19. Who should be held responsible and who should do the calling out? I am no fan of either school, but I am sure the U is being pilloried on the UNC forums.

Virginia only beat Pittsburgh by 7 at home. And they went 12 for 24 from 3PT. Could have easily lost if not for that ridiculous stat. I’m cautiously optimistic about tomorrow’s game. I think we match up well against them and we’ve been playing pretty well at home. Last game of the year where we have a somewhat similar rest compared to our opponent.
