The fans, like me, found the ATL to be confusing. And though we had ATL players, some rarely played.

Example Collins 1st Temple game was @ Notre Dame. No one outside the Program knew who the starting QB was until he walked on the field w the 1st possession. Even reporters didn’t know. This continued and as fans typically get antsy for the #2 nobody knew who it was. Early into his 1st season we were blown out at USF on ESPN Thur night game and Pataneude had a public blowout w one of the qbs in the sidelines. 3 played in that game in some seemingly random rotation. Next game Paraneude was in the booth where he remained for his Temple tenure.

As far as player buy in, I can’t comment. I didn’t know anyone in the lockeroom. As with any change, there have been rumblings but I don’t put much weight into it.

The most impressive thing to me about Collins was his ability to right the ship. We really thought ‘18 was going to be a wash but we finished strong so clearly he had believers.Though we were 7-1 in conf I don’t think you will find many TU fans who thought we were going to beat UCF. Hope, yes but win, no.

I’m extremely interested in the tech game. Have that circled on my calendar and will be reading this board as the game approaches

Enjoy! And feel free to contribute where you see fit. Some of us are old and ornery (not me) but it's the best forum I've ever been on. Welcome to the Swarm.

I didn’t come to troll, I just offered a little experience w the ATL thing. I was asked for more perspective.

I mentioned our slow starts and bad losses. Last year, we opened w two home losses, to FCS Villanova & Buffalo. Those were terrible. We then turned the season around and finished strong.

One of the big reasons, if not the biggest, was going to the 4th QB, Anthony Russo. He is now a legit nfl prospect. He was QB #4 under Collins/Paraneude over 2 seasons....the bizarre ATL thing. Incidentally, all 4 were recruited by Rhule.

I’m not hurt Collins left. It’s what coaches do. I’m just providing my opinion and my opinion is Collins cashed and Georgia Tech overpaid. Baylor hired away a far superior coach in Rhule than you paid for. We’ll all see....
I, for one, appreciate your insight.

Thank you for your input! I don’t know why people are bashing you I think you have some very valid points.

To say Rhule is far superior holds no weight imo. He’s been a coach HC for a good bit longer than Collins. We as fans also have no clue what goes on behind the scenes, the QB you spoke of may have not been ready and just developed throughout the season before getting the start. I understand somewhat where you are coming from, but some statements come across as sour. I’m not saying you are at all, they just come across that way because the statements imo don’t hold much weight. However, I do appreciate you coming on here and not being rude.

I could care less if we fans know who is starting or THE something or other, if the opponent doesn't know and is left guessing then that is good IMO. I don't know if lots of kids flying around at top effort/speed with their hair on fire is going to work or not, but if we don't have players then I'm all for using lots of players and trying it. We're getting ready to find out in about 10, 11 days and beyond, if in fact that's what we're going to do.

From my understanding ATL means you could get a shot at playing, not that you will. Basically you have earned the spot to play, but you may not if others are doing well and we don’t need you. He has a rotation and an actual order (depth chart) of the guys from how I have hlgathered stuff.

I appreciate the input. I thought Collins was on his way to having a great 2019 season at Temple, it seemed like he was building his program up. Maybe I'll check out old Temple player interviews and see if they give off a similar excitement to how we see our players speaking now.

I understand the frustrations with finding the right QB, but I think QB controversies are just inherent to college football. We had something similar in 2017 where we had 4 possible QBs and Paul Johnson let nobody know who was starting game 1 until the first snap. I find it interesting that Collins/Pat even gave your 4th string QB a shot. As you said with hindsight, he should have just started Russo from the beginning, but you found your guy due to a willingness to try something new.

By the way, your comments are the first time I realized that the phrase "Above The Line" had actually originated at Temple. I thought back then he'd call it something like "Players of High Impact" or "PHI" for branding Philidelphia. Adds a bit to the tinfoil hat theory that he was always crafting his branding strategies to specifically fit GT and the "ATL" whenever he got his chance at the job. Regardless, I agree with you that he's probably a better fit here in the south. I, for one, have enjoyed everything he's implemented and I actually don't mind the pants. High water pants are kind of the thing now.

Ehhh... Matt Rhule is a good coach but im too sure about far superior. Speaking of slow starts, Rhule first 2 seasons at Temple and Baylor is 8-16 & 8-17.

I don’t dislike Collins and I don’t have any “bad” stories about him. I’m 35 years+ as a Temple FB fan and am happy to have any Coach that wins @ Temple. On our board I gave his tenure a B+ I wouldn’t think that is sour. Anyone who wins at Temple is a good coach.

I jumped on w the ATL stuff. I also read the other thread and there seemed to be a debate about it. I’m just telling you what we saw. He didn’t provide depth charts and he didn’t divulge who was starting at key positions.

The pants and no socks would have been ignored but if you lose and you’re wearing those in October in Philly, it’s a target....lol. I didn’t really care.

I will pop back in a couple weeks and be happy to give some info to those who might be considering going to the game. I live in FL now but I’m flying back for that one !

When you get a chance, i would like to know reaction/thoughts when Manny Diaz was announced as the replacement for 2 weeks?

I will say this.

I am not a fan of coach Paraneude. He's never had superstar success to me. We need an innovative young OC. Paraneude isn't going anywhere even if he does really well, which he won't. If he could be a successful OC for a power 5 school he would of been one by now. He is what 60?

51 but I must admit Paraneude is a pretty funny moniker. I wonder how it was derived?

He’s definitely not young, but he’s not 60 either. His CC teams put up some big numbers so I’m taking a wait and see approach. He should have more weapons than what he inherited at Temple, so I’m hopeful.
