It seems that there is a stat for everything but I'm curious about King's throws > 7yds downfield. His high completion rate seems to be from throws to the flats behind the LOS and/or the 12" flip to the receiver running in front of him in the backfield.
There’s a lot of NFL data emerging on this. Completion percentages are up because of shorter throws downfield. Not sure if similar data exists in NCAA, but Philo’s completion percentage is pretty good considering his yds in the air.

Yeah, it's like comparing 2-point vs. 3-point shot percentages in basketball. Many of Philo's throws are downfield shots under pressure, often in third and long, that have a higher difficulty than the short lobs King has been doing. Not to take anything away from King's outstanding stats, but Philo's relatively low completion percentage is a reflection of the situations he's been put in and I think he should be graded on a curve.

That is correct. I think the O was designed around the running game and limiting his downfield passing, which is definitely risky given his interceptions last year. Buster has done a GREAT job designing an O maximizing his available talent. If Philo is our QB next year, I believe you will see a different O scheme.
Bingo. As I've said before, if Philo wins the job next fall - and if King moves on he has the inside track - expect to see Jameis Winston, pert deux. We'll have to find a way to get Haynes the holes he needs, but that'll be all it'll take.

We did run a different scheme when he was in = throw under route to stockton and chunk it long to singleton. For the new scheme we will need some better running back , ol run blocking, and tight end that can get open, because stockton is not a burner like king. They change offense in 24 to match talent.
In 23 King was very often tring to make up for very bad defense = passing long.

After Philo gets college level strength, he is likely to be dangerous.

At uga i hope the ol doesnt look like they did against ND. Pyron is much stronger thsn philo and he got banged up.

You guys are so funny…Philo is not beating out King as QB. This board always jumps on the first piece of hype and just runs with it. He might turn into an amazing player, but please stop this notion that he’s going to beat out King. Haynes is the better player and just brings a whole lot more to the position.

Seriously though...here is why I am very impressed with the talent/potential of Aaron:

1. Arm strength: Is making pro level throws in the pocket or while on the run into the flat.
2. Accuracy: I know not every pass has been on the money, but he has delivered on difficult passes in key situations. He may put a little too much zip on the ball on occasion, but that is easily coachable.
3. Pocket Awareness: Has an excellent feel for the pocket knowing when to float, when to run, or hang tough,
4. Leadership: Team seems to rally around the kid. I believe some of this is the culture that Key is building, but he a true freshman who appears to have earned his team's respect. That is not a given.
5. Poise: Has come up big in tough, long yardage situations. Seems unflappable in 2 minute drill.

I love Haynes King and if fully healthy I would want him to start and I think he would continue to succeed. In a perfect world I would want Philo to redshirt this year and be ready for next year, but as many have said we need to win now. I just see Philo has all the tools and talents to be one of the best we've had here in a long time. I would think you would want that as well.

Did Aaron Philo punk you out of your lunch money?
Not at all. I’m just a realist and have seen this movie way too many times as a Tech fan. Get all hyped about a player because of a few moments; only to watch the bulk of you guys turn on the kid because we as fans have placed ungodly expectations on said player. All I want if for us fans to stop putting the cart before the horse. We have a starting QB that’s arguably the best player on the team, yet we are ready to write him off because of a couple of moments from the new guy.

I have also seen the same movie you have. I am observing talent and potential. In my observation we have a generational talent on our hands. I do not think he is going to disappoint us unless he gets hurt or someone throws Manning level cash at him. If he is a bust, I will gladly eat crow.

A lot of great points, and I agree with the bulk of them…but that last paragraph seems to insinuate that we are in win now mode and going into next year Philo is the best person for that (maybe and hopefully I’m interpreting that wrong). If that’s the case I don’t agree with that at all. Every QB that comes into our program I hope that they eventually become the best that ever came through, so please dont interpret me suggesting everyone hold their horses as me not believing in the kid.

I was talking about this year only. In other threads I have lamented burning Philo's redshirt this year for one extra game, but others have been very adamant that we need to play for today and let the future take care of itself. I can see both arguments.

I don't think people by any means are writing King off. But the truth is if he can't pass, we will struggle to move the ball. A healthy KIng is a whole different conversation.
