You guys are so funny…Philo is not beating out King as QB. This board always jumps on the first piece of hype and just runs with it. He might turn into an amazing player, but please stop this notion that he’s going to beat out King. Haynes is the better player and just brings a whole lot more to the position.
Seriously though...here is why I am very impressed with the talent/potential of Aaron:
1. Arm strength: Is making pro level throws in the pocket or while on the run into the flat.
2. Accuracy: I know not every pass has been on the money, but he has delivered on difficult passes in key situations. He may put a little too much zip on the ball on occasion, but that is easily coachable.
3. Pocket Awareness: Has an excellent feel for the pocket knowing when to float, when to run, or hang tough,
4. Leadership: Team seems to rally around the kid. I believe some of this is the culture that Key is building, but he a true freshman who appears to have earned his team's respect. That is not a given.
5. Poise: Has come up big in tough, long yardage situations. Seems unflappable in 2 minute drill.
I love Haynes King and if fully healthy I would want him to start and I think he would continue to succeed. In a perfect world I would want Philo to redshirt this year and be ready for next year, but as many have said we need to win now. I just see Philo has all the tools and talents to be one of the best we've had here in a long time. I would think you would want that as well.
