More from my UNC neighbor:

"If the rich donors want a better team they can buy one. If they want a better coach they can pay Mack to leave, and pay Andy Reed to leave Kansas City and come to Chapel Hill. Everything in college football is possible if you have the money. For my money Mack is good enough, and should go out on his own terms."
Translation: “Is it basketball season yet?”

Pretty sure he has one more year on his contract. UNC would have bought him out if he wanted to leave. This will not be good for recruiting except a few one year transfers and die hard NC kids that want to go to UNC. A few of his coaches might get poached during the coaching carrousel at the end of the season and who wants a one year situation.
The alums I know in the RTP area are ready for him to retire. Several are season ticket holders. Nice gesture by Cunningham to let him retire on his own terms. Mack sure didn't hesitate to leave them for Texas did he?

Alot of Top 25 recruiting classes under Brown, but this year has been easily their weakest. Currently ranked #70 on both 247sports and Rivals and with only 11 players committed and only 2 players from the state of NC. GA is the state they have the most players from this cycle.

It's interesting hearing football fans around eastern NC talking about football. From the perspective of a native North Carolinian this season has been a complete washout. The ACC teams, App State, and ECU have all been disappointing. Then there's the Panthers. I am not surprised the best NC recruits are looking elsewhere. What does surprise me is why a top Ga recruit would consider playing for Mack at this point.

Sankey is at it again.
Always. Wish we could take it out of their hands altogether, but too much money talks too loudly.

We can. With a little help from Army, Purdue and Auburn / Oklahoma, and maybe a Vandy or Missy St sprinkled in, we can shake up a lot of standings.

Strength of schedule concept needs to go away. It can only be used to justify losses but it doesn’t accurately reflect quality of wins. Lots of these “strong” schedules have only 1-2 really good teams. Maybe you shouldn’t be penalized as harshly for losing to those teams but you shouldn’t get points without beating someone decent.

The whole SOS argument goes away if we beat uga next Friday night.

With the schedules setup the way they are, it takes OOC losses for the top teams to drop out. When the polls announce in the preseason that 8 SEC and 5 big schools are the best teams, and the only losses they have are to each other, what do you expect?

Of course, the way the narrative works, if uga loses to Tech it will only reinforce their strength of schedule argument. After all, not only did they beat powerhouses like Auburn, Florida and South Carolina, but they lost to that pesky, sneaky good, dangerous Tech team that beat Miami.

That’s the problem with the narrative. Once you put practically an entire conference in the top 25 ANY result after that involving an SEC team is confirmation bias.

This is the key and it’s circular reasoning. The ACC’s problem is we lose too many games to OOC teams we should beat. Nobody thinks ODU is better than VPI, but they’ve dropped two games to them in the past decade. Same with us and
Citadel and NIU. It hurts.

As I have previously said ACC losing 4-5 games a year to ND hurts our national perception. ACC teams need to start beating ND more than ones every few years.

ACC is in a bad situation with ND. I’m sure it brings in money, but then, they get a half share of football revenue, IIRC. Not sure what the net-net is on that. I agree, it hurts our perception - we get the losses but not the advantage of them being a conference team. They can even take one of our bowls.

Personally, I think it’s time to tell them to poop or get off the pot.

I haven’t looked up the overall ACC record vs Notre Dame, but I am pretty sure they own us as a league.

Another issue with ND is that they have managed for the most part to play ACC teams that were not having their best years. I don’t think they even played FSU in their most recent good years. Same would be true for Miami. Clemson they avoided from 2016 - 2022 except for 3 games I think. They won 2 of those but one win was 2 OT victory in South Bend.

I didn’t do any extensive research on this but I know several years I found myself lamenting that the ACC teams they played were not having their best years. It’s a little like how Alabama and Georgia avoided each other for many years which allowed them to fatten up on victories over Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Kentucky.
