New Field of 64 projection. Ga Tech still in at #8 (super-regional seed).
ACC and SEC have 10 teams each in the field. ACC hosting x 4 (LOU, GT, VT, ND).

Pitching, pitching, pitching.....right now we have 2 reliable starters (Hurter and Archer), and 2 (sort of) reliable relievers (Maxwell and Bartnicki). We desperately need pitching depth, and it would be great to see guys like Roedig, Grissom, or someone unexpected to step and and really start contributing.

SEC 6 of the top 10. 7 out of top 20. Self-fullfilling RPI and Rank, no?

RPI formula only works when you reach a point where you can connect all teams thru record of opponents & records of opponent's opponents. This year... with fewer OOC games for ACC & none for some teams... the RPI will never sort out properly (I believe). The SEC is playing a "regular" schedule so all their OOC games (mostly wins) are helping them. Ga Tech's only played 5 OOC games with a 3-2 record.

While I have a pretty negative view of Beesball right now, there is one ray of sunshine. Given how poorly we have played at home, and conversely how well we have played on the road, maybe it will benefit us to NOT host any of the post-season activity. The way we have been playing we arguably won't earn such a bid (or it may be withheld for political reasons) but maybe that will benefit us in the long run.
OK, I know that sounds snarky, but I really am looking for positives here!

Zach Maxwell, RHP, Georgia Tech
Maxwell was a standout as a prep as he was drafted by the Yankees in the 30th round but decided to take his talents to school instead. The Yellow Jackets have used him in both a starter-type roll, as well as out of the bullpen. This look we saw him enter out of the bullpen and the arm was on full display. He has always been known for his fastball as he was up into the mid-90s again today while bumping a handful of 96s. The question has always been is if he can mix in more secondaries. Right now, he sports a breaking ball with 11/5 movements in the low-80s that was really sharp when down. Again, he will need to add another pitch to the arsenal if he wants to contend for a starting job both in college and at the next level.
No doubt he has what it takes to pitch at the next level as he stands at a physical 6-foot-6 and is mechanically sound. The big question that needs to be answered are his secondaries, because the fastball is mighty impressive. He threw just an inning during his outing today as he walked three while striking one out on just one hit. Maxwell will generate draft buzz around him next year and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out for him if he is to add another pitch, you can make an argument for him to go in earlier rounds.

Andy Archer, RHP, Georgia Tech
Archer has long been known for his gritty-type performances out of the bullpen in the past, but he has made the next step as he finds himself as a big part of the Yellow Jackets starting staff. The right-hander continues to fill out a large 6-foot-4 frame as he looks the part of a starter at the next level. The right-hander was smooth in the operation as he utilized drop-and-drive mechanics while staying direct to the dish. The arm stroke shows effort as he lived around the zone with a three-pitch mix. The fastball has always been a pitch he can rely on as the four-seamer had life out of hand. He was up to 91 mph early and then sat just under it later in his outing. The breaking ball seems to be making strides as he has been known for the changeup being the better off-speed pitch in the past. The curveball flashed depth in the upper-70s with sharp-spinning 11/5 movements. The aforementioned changeup was on point during his outing as it faded out of the zone while missing barrels in the low-80s.
The question for Archer is not the arsenal, as he proved to have feel for it today, but the longevity of his performance. He seemed to lose velocity quickly in his outing that will turn people away from his ability to start at the next level. With that being said, he has held his own this year as he is 4-1 on the season, while picking up his first lose of the season against in-conference competitor Virginia. Don't be surprised to see Archer sneak into a later round pick if he is to continue the trend of pitching winning baseball.

Roedig entered late in the action as his Georgia Tech squad was down a handful of runs. First thing that stands out is his unorthodox-type delivery as he proved he could create deception with it. The overall mechanics are fine as he does a good job using the lower half while releasing from a three-quarter slot with a whippy arm action. He seems to have put some emphasis on his secondaries this past year, as they have come a long way. The changeup was solid in his outing, as it was in the mid-80s with running fade to it. He got plenty of swing-and-miss with it and did a nice job tunneling it off the breaking ball. He also proved he could spin a breaking ball in the mid-70s that flashed bite with 11-to-5 movements. The fastball velocity was down a tick as he sat in the low-90s during his outing but it is easy to assume it was due to the cold weather.
The right-hander no doubt has some upside here as he knew how to work the edges, as he missed bats for the majority of his outing. He ended up throwing just a single inning as he struck out two while giving up the same amount of free passes on no hits. Roedig still has a few questions left unanswered and his draft stock is still somewhat up in the air for the time being. If he is to produce and bring the velocity back, we could hear his name called come July.
