This was not a good hire for them. He ran some of the most incompetent offenses I’ve seen at Tampa and Cleveland. Neither of those teams are top-end, but both had enough offensive talent to make things work for an imaginative play designer.

Hopefully this means the UGAG offense will suck for the next 2-3 years until they replace him:cigar:

I think Fuente would do fine at Baylor. Something is rotten in Blacksburg that goes beyond whoever the coach is.
Never, never, never follow a living legend as a college coach. It did not work for Bud Carson following Bobby Dodd, it did not work out for Ray Perkins following Bear Bryant, it did not work out for Hootie Ingram following Frank Howard, and it will not work out for Coach Fuente.

I don't know why. There is not an overarching commonality to these coaches some were recruiting gurus, some were defensive specialists, some were offensive geniuses but all of them faced a sated and demanding fan base combined with usually subpar recruiting classes left over from the legend. I am sure some of you could think of exceptions to this rule. As I type this I am trying to think of that guy that replaced Woody Hayes seems like he was pretty successful at Ohio State. Perhaps the guy that replaced Darryl Royal at Texas. It is a tough row to hoe for sure. Poor old Ron Zook came in to replace Spurrier at Florida and was run out of town not long after unpacking the moving van. You always want to be the guy who come after the sucker who replaced the legend. Of course, sometimes even that does not work out witness Bill Curry following Ray Perkins.

John Robinson did a great job at USC following John McKay;)

Recruiting related: Why do we almost never refer to our GLOBAL academic rankings when we talk about our elite academics?

https://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/engineering
https://www.economist.com/whichmba/full-time-mba-ranking?page=2

Eff talking about being one of the top schools in the country, let's start referring to GT academics as one of the ELITE in the world. Our engineering schools is top 20, our business school is top 25. Let's start differentiating ourselves even more, and you know CGC loves talking GT up...well, get on the elite GLOBAL sell, CGC!

...end rant. :)

China has 4 of top ten engineering schools on that list. We need to take one of those slots for a whole lot of reasons.

Good thing those schools don't have college football team for their fans to complain about STEM and calculus.

I kid, I kid...

It can be done but even the esteemed Coach Robinson was not as popular as Coach McKay who was a regular quote machine. When he coached at Tampa Bay as an expansion franchise, he was asked by a reporter about his team's "execution" Quote the Master: "I am all for it".
