There is a big difference in a Tech fan and a Clemson (or UGA or Alabama) fan. Those teams are "cool" to be a fan of. You don't catch much hell wearing Clemson colors, same as you don't with UGA. The fan bases are huge. Just watch ANY Clemson or UGA game when they don't play in their own stadium. They make away games into home games basically. We can't fill a 60K stadium, and they have people they have to turn away. It's much more widely accepted and quite frankly popluar to wear those colors. There's excitement about them. Heck, even a good portion of our own students don't give one rip about sports.

If we become more popular, I think our traditions will start to become so as well. But we are not a marketing person's dream in terms of market size in any stretch of the imagination. If navy blue GT stuff sells better than gold (and it does, I've seen it myself), well...that's what the companies are going to make. There's nothing you or I can do about that.
I don't so much object to what the companies offer to sell as much as I do the unprecedented emphasis on blue by the Tech AA and marketing people over just the past 3 to 4 years. I have been a Tech fan since 1956 and have attended Tech games since 1962, and in all that time up until the Cremins / Curry / Ross years, I NEVER saw a blue uniform in any sport. Now I know that Dodd from time to time used blue jerseys, but he also from time to time used black jerseys, and all white unis (I only saw the all whites in person). He certainly never used blue pants or all blue unis, and I'm sure the fan base at that time would have revolted if he had, because they were proud of the White and Gold. And yet everywhere you look now the Tech marketing people are pushing blue on the world like it's a defining color for Georgia Tech, which it is not and never has been and never should be. In our alma mater and both of the fight songs, the ONLY colors mentioned are White and Gold. THAT is Georgia Tech; not blue and anything.

I would be willing to bet no one in GTAA Marketing attended Tech.

So since this is the discussion area for colors, give me some input. I've been on Nike.com playing around with some custom designs for "gameday" shoes. Which of the two shown here would be preferred?

The shoe lining and the laces and Flywire systems could be all solid colors on either shoe (the navy on the white base shoe could be all white, and vice versa on the navy shoe).

Definitely the first one.

Put this in the other thread, but figured I'd add it here to....

Serious question, I was at the game on Thursday in the lower deck. Could you see the player's numbers on TV? My brother-in-law kept asking who was at quarterback and who was at running back and I couldn't tell because the numbers had no background or outline to them. I could see Clemson't white on orange numbers with no problem. Maybe it's not a big deal if you know who your QB or RB or WR is (JT, Dwyer, Calvin, etc.), but I couldn't even tell who the QB was for us or if we changed it most of the game. I even printed out the roster since I knew there were going to be so many new players this year.

Sad that our classic G/W/G with blue numbers and traditional stripes on the sleeves and pants can't be used or at least numbers that are visible from the stands.

I was at the game too, and I couldn't even read the numbers on the big screens in the stadium most of the time. Tech's numbers WERE outlined, but they just didn't stand out the way they have in the past.

Gold1, where were you in the stadium? I was about 40 rows up on the Tech side, about the same as my seats on the West side at home. I couldn't tell any of the numbers at all. Thanks.
Sounds like you might have been relatively close to where I was seated. I was on row 30 of the Upper bowl (not sure how many rows there are in the Lower bowl) and on about the 20 yard line at the Howard's Rock end of the field.

Wife is a Clemson alum so we have Tech and Clemson season tickets. I think there are around 50 rows in the lower deck at Clemson, roughly 26 above and below the entry portals. So from about row 40, I couldn't read our numbers, similar to what has happened at Bobby Dodd the last few times we've decided to wear gold numbers on white tops.

I think you underestimate the size of the lower deck. I was on row 30 of the upper section of the lower deck, and there were at least 10 rows still behind me. The lower section looked like it probably had close to 30, if not more, rows also. At any rate, as I said, I couldn't easily read the numbers even on the jumbotrons.
