Tom Crean 16 million. Manning zero buyout, he has to be gone. Huh, Capel at Pit has no buyout. We need to stop putting buyouts in contracts!!!!!!!!!

Not sure that USA today is very accurate. It has Manning at zero buyout but have read elsewhere he has an 18 million buyout.

Don't confuse "no data" with "zero buyout". Doesn't pass the smell test that Capel signed a contract with Pitt that doesn't have a buyout for the rebuild he took over. Manning's contract details with Wake hasn't been disclosed (that I know of) and speculation has run rampant that he is fully guaranteed through something like 2024 - but again that is speculation in the face of no disclosure from a private institution.

Buyouts are a normal part of most any contract at this level. You make your bet best you can. Our issue really hasn't been buyouts - even with Hewitt - it has been a lack of resources and the inability or disinterest of ADs to go raise the resources required to make us legit. Till that changes ......

According to Jeff Goodman Manning's contract is fully guaranteed. There is no buyout.

So they are both sort of accurate. The real story is that they will pay Manning $18M more whether or not he coaches.

Can't imagine Wake has money to pay that out, unless they can structure it over a long period of time.

Deandre Hunter didn't get starting minutes on last year's team but I call BS here because he was a really good player for the Hoos as a Freshman, he just happened to be stuck behind a better, more experienced player in Devon Hall.

Okay, so how about Keita Bates-Diop? He shot up to almost 20ppg as a senior after 11 as a soph and 10 as a junior and getting injured. Luke Maye from sophomore to Junior went from not playing much and 5ppg to 17, Mikal bridges went from 10ppg to 18 last year. Point is it happens pretty often. Plenty of Juniors and Seniors still get drafted so if they weren't "making a jump" why wouldn't they have gone as Freshman? Why can't Devoe average 15ppg next year? 15-17 for Alvarado, 10-12 for Banks, 8-10 Usher, 8-10 Moore, and 10 for Wright. That's an average of 70 ppg and doesn't seem unreasonable, especially if we add another piece as a grad transfer or solid freshman.

Well yea, but aren't we ignoring the only important point from that chart ? that There's like 59 other programs with larger buyouts than us who wouldn't blink an eye to do what's needed to improve their programs .....

People I know inside that program say the small print on the contract limits the Manning liability significantly should he be let go if certain metrics aren't met. One thing is certain, Manning continues to be their coach if they have to dole out $18M.

They better hope that small print is big enough. For those that don't know, since Wake is a private school no one is getting their grubby little fingers on that contract.
