2017 Game @UCF rescheduled

Auburn, Ole Miss, UCF - nobody wants to play us. I'm surprised we gave them the chance to reschedule with the way they conducted themselves last year.

If they didn't want to play us, why did they reschedule? They had a perfectly legitimate reason to cancel last year. Hurricane damage was widespread over Florida.

Maybe you weren't plugged into everything that went down last year, but UCFs campus was back open on Monday. All the UCF sports teams were practicing all week. The football team was even posting to social media showing practice, etc. Other UCF sports had their games still scheduled. Other local football teams like USF and the Bucs played. The Athletic Director did a radio interview and essentially said they overreacted on the football team and let some of the players go home without a contingency plan if the storm wasn't that bad after all. When it wasn't, and everything was back open, they were missing some key players early in the week and thought they wouldn't be able to prepare thoroughly enough for us. We also offered them before the storm hit to just move the game and come on up to Atlanta (and then we'd play at their site the next time), and they said no to that.

Didn't every other Florida school play that weekend?

They were just scared. They know they need a ton of time to prepare and knew they would take an L. Hopefully they get the L anyways on both games we play them. Just feel the switch to Atlanta and then we go down there for the 2nd game made sense. Oh well

Yes, every other team in Florida did play that weekend. The damage in the Orlando area was minimal ( I had planned to go to the game and visit Disney while there, and wound up going anyway to the Disney part.....reports of damage were overblown).

I don’t know about UCF, but their fans were in Georgia or above. It would have been impossible to get there, traffic was horrendous in South Georgia, and we were devastated. I couldn’t even have watched it on TV. No power and cleaning up. Don’t cast stones unless you have lived through a hurricane.

Just checked again and sure enough Orlando wasn't even foretasted to be in Irma's path. This was published September 10th, game was scheduled for the 16th. Disney reopened the 13th. We should have requested another home game as compensation for rescheduling this canceled game.

That is not true. (I have lived through a bunch of hurricanes by the way.) 90% of the people who lost power in Orlando had it back in 2 days (5 days before our game). UCFs campus reopened Monday (5 days before our game). I don't doubt many of their fans evacuated - as they probably should have. But you don't cancel a football game because many of your fans can't get there. It wasn't even a hurricane when it went through Orlando:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/weat...irma-path-central-florida-20170912-story.html
"It may have felt like Hurricane Irma slammed through Central Florida early Monday, but the region actually did not get the worst of the storm. Irma’s eye — the strongest part of the system — didn’t cross into any Central Florida counties. Not even sustained hurricane-force winds hit Orlando, according to the National Weather Service."

I am also going off of what UCF athletics were posting, what other teams in the area were doing, when UCF's campus opened, and UCF's Athletic Director said regarding their reasoning for canceling. I'm not trying to cast stones, I'm just passing on all the supporting data and the words out of their own mouths.

The flooding was really bad around Orlando. Some areas of Florida had less damage than expected, but there was over 100 million dollars worth of damage in the Orlando area. The Miami - FSU game set for that weekend was postponed. It's perfectly reasonable for CFU to have called off the game.

Right, they moved it - they didn't cancel it.

If you don't think they could have played it, you should listen to the Athletic Director and UCF themselves, who said they could have. They just didn't think they'd be prepared enough. Also, none of any of this explains why they declined to flip the series and just come play us in Atlanta - we offered that before the storm even hit. They declined to play the game in another stadium outside of their campus. They declined literally every reasonable option put in front of them - storm or no storm.

I also still went to Orlando for the weekend last year and apart from the flooded areas (not @ UCF) the city was fine. As I recall their position was they wouldn't be prepared for the game because they sent players home to their families hence not accepting a game in ATL.

Yep, the Athletic Director on his radio interview seemed totally sincere - they thought it was going to be utter destruction (Irma had 180 mph winds earlier in Puerto Rico), so they sent any players home that wanted to go help their families. And he said they did so without any contingency of what to do if the storm ended up turning and not hitting Orlando. So when it did (they didn't even get hurricane force winds), they were SOL as several of their players were still gone. They came back that week as campus opened Monday (our game was scheduled for the following Saturday), but they didn't want to play us without having enough time to prepare.

You know, that seems like a legitimate reason right there.
