The defense played sooo well! We have barely had a pass rush all season, but yesterday we consistently hurried their QB into many bad passes. A lot of that was Height.
To me, this was our worst loss of the season. Syracuse and Louisville were on our level and we could have won either or both. We competed but lost. Notre Dame was was way better and we would lose to that team almost every time. But I think we would have beaten VT handily had our best offensive...
A good pass rushing end is by far out biggest need. We need to put huge emphasis on getting one next year. As it is now, we make every QB look like a Brisbane winner.
I am bummed as are we all, but only because we played poorly. We could have made it close if we had played our A game. Having our starting quarterback and best tackler out made things worse. But here's the thing: notre dame wasn't just a little better than us, they were much better. We were...
I was glad to see the OC didn't give up on the play which cost us a touchdown a few weeks ago. The one where that QB takes the snap, runs toward line, then stops and throws it to a receiver way out on the right side. The other time s defense had gotten into the lane and Haynes didn't look...
If I understand MWBATL correctly, this is a lesson I have to relearn every year. Teams are not X good. Every game is its own thing. Teams are in a range of good. Say team A is between 5 and 7. Team B is between 7 and 9. Most of the time team B will win, but sometimes team A plays their 7 game...
It will be interesting to see what Faulkner and Key come up with for these short yardage situations. This is crucial. If there is no fix for the blocking, surely there is something which can start out having the look of smash the line play buy turns into something which takes advantage of the...
Faster linebackers would be great, sure. But what would be better still is one or more slippery, athletic DEs who are almost impossible to block. I thought Height might have been that, but I don't hear his name called much.
I agree with Buzztheirazz. Everyone has been saying what a boneheaded play King made with the lateral. Seems to me the only thing boneheaded about it was he failed to look down the line before releasing the ball. Like Buzz, I didn't see anything but green in front of the receiver. In fact...
In addition to more emphasis on the pass game, I'd like to see King checking to see if a running lane has opened while he's looking for a receiver. He's a good open field runner and a big gain from a quarterback tuck and run is demoralizing for the defense.
Agree with Jerry and Mtn. I'm thinking our coordinators both learned from Syracuse. And I'm hoping our players also learned they've got to play with the same energy they play with when at home.
1) many of us, including me, read too much into the Ohio game. Syracuse didn't play their best, and we were led to believe they couldn't stop the run. 2). We played without energy, and it resulted in poor blocking and tackling...
