SMU Coach Rhett Lashley on ACC and CFP

Why does that matter to you? Are you saying it isn’t noble to play teams nearby? So SMU should’t play Houston, Texas or TAMU? Florida plays Missouri which is halfway across the country? That’s not good enough? I get student athlete accommodations request DAILY. Do you know how challenging it...

So? There’s 3 legit OOC programs in Florida. If you’re trying to recruit the state, I would think you would appeal to the entire state. What does UF have to gain by playing Wisconsin? Or Alcorn State? LSU is completely different. There’s no other legit program in the state. Much ado about nothing.

Don’t they play Miami, FSU and UCF? Tech could play UGA, Ga State and Ga Southern and do the same.

It shouldn’t. See Indiana. No one plays 10 games a year anymore. It’s 12 and maybe, 3 more in the playoffs. You have to manage injuries to do that. If Georgia played Texas, Bama, and Ole Miss on the road (which they did), you should be ok with coming home and playing Lower Slobodia. I think we...

We often accuse others of doing the same thing we do. Playing cupcakes isn’t new. Especially when injuries really matter in a 15 game season.

Didn’t Tech just announce plans to play Mercer? At BDS?

Seems like a way to rationalize a view that one wants to have. I recall when Bryan Harsin was first hired at Auburn. When he was asked what his first impressions were, he remarked on the size and physicality of the SEC teams. "We don't face players like this" out west he said (or something...

It was a different era. In the 1950's and 60's, the SEC was football and pretty much nothing else. When I was a kid, nobody cared about SEC basketball, baseball, etc. So they were painting their football message on a greenfield. The ACC can't do that. They have to actually change perception that...

No. The SEC was a football conference 60 years ago when the ACC, all 8 teams, was the premiere basketball conference. The ACC let that get away and never really defined themselves anew.

There are a number of factors that go into a ranking and the W-L record is but one.

I’m not sure what vacuum they filled. Ranked or not, this is the current record of who they beat this year: 3-7 3-8 4-6 3-7 4-6 4-6 5-5 6-5 4-6 5-5 They beat one team with a winning record. Ouch.

This drama has been unfolding for 20, 30 years. I’m not really interested in debating that. I’m simply pointing out that anyone in the system today should’t be feigning surprise. Where has this dude been? He’s only now figuring this out?

If he is POINTING it out, he’s late to the party. He may as well scream “Hitler has invaded Poland!”

Batt named CFB hall of fame chairman

As Batt’s star rises and GT continues to improve, he is increasingly likely to be recruited away. My current prediction is that LSU will go after him and shortly after, fire Kelly. They are ready to burn him in effigy in Baton Rouge.

SMU Coach Rhett Lashley on ACC and CFP

It’s a pointless discussion. The whole reason for a national ranking system in the first place was to generate fan interest and sell newspapers. Want more media attention? Make sure the teams that appeal to the largest fan bases are ranked. And you justify it by the talent (per cent of 4/5...

    Castellanos quits BC

A former Alabama player described the cultural shift in college athletics. He said you used to play for the school, the traditions, being part of something bigger than yourself. Today, it’s all about self. Money and playing time. That’s it.

    Brian Bohannon Fired

The entire budget of KSU’s athletic department is $31M, up from $25M. The minimum, in today’s environmen, to be competitive is $70M plus, and probably closer to $100M. It’s a very bad idea to jump up until you’re ready to jump up. KSU is going to ruin a lot of its reputation in the process.
