    Brian Bohannon Fired

Media rights. The problems for KSU is they don't have a large enough fanbase to pay for the increased facilities and athletic costs. This isn't going to end well for them.

    Brian Bohannon Fired

Michael Coles was the CEO at Great American Cookie Company (which he started and sold) and Caribou Coffee. He’s been on the BoT at KSU for decades with his name plastered all over campus, including the business school.

another optimistic rant for those losing hope...

The all-time win rate for GT is 0.58. For a 12-game season, that averages out to about 7 wins a season which is consistent with what CPJ said.

another optimistic rant for those losing hope...

Lose hope? Not even close. I lived a Tech life going to seasons of 4-6-1, 1-9-1, 1-10, and 6-5. Sometimes, simply fielding a competitive team is a major accomplishment. After decades of abject neglect, the Hill is finally taking steps and investing in the Program ... new facilities, new hires...

    Ted Roof

The reality is you go into the stadium with the players you have, not the ones you hope to have. I’d rate Ted a C+.

GTAA Creates New "Player Management" Position

I’m not sure what point you’re making. Auburn has a similar position (and Bama) to deal with time consuming issues that distract the head coach. Teams have NFL liaisons, NIL mgmt, etc that are importhat, but best managed by “other” personnel. I see this for GT as an important step towards...

    GT Athletics Budget

Really? I had a stipend. I kinda enjoyed it. Undergrad was starvation.

    GT Athletics Budget

There’s also the infrastructure refresh. Whole buildings are being demolished and rebuilt new because of the flood of cash into universities driven by the student loan program. That’s a major reason why so many universities are quiet re societal issues. It’s hard to bite the hand that feeds you.

    GT Athletics Budget

Student activity fees are recommended by the institution and approved by the USG Board of Regents. My understanding is that because athletic facilities are open to all undergraduates, then a fee is appropriate to maintain the facilities. (So, the larger the school, the greater the investment in...

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

OK, I should have said, "That raises an interesting question." Got it. Tech's average attendance prior to TFG is 47,340. I don't see any reason for it to suddenly reverse a long-term trend of decline. That's true for a lot of teams. But even in the Orange Bowl year of 2014, Tech only managed...

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

That's an interesting question. Tennessee raised its prices (in dramatic fashion) and royally pissed off its fanbase. However, UT knows that it has a waitlist of 15,000 wanting season tix, so all they had to do was determine a breakeven point to estimate risk. In the end, I think they will lose...

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

There’s a significant difference between donations per person and size of the fanbase. Large, state land grant schools generate far more money simply because the fanbase is far larger.

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

No one said that. If you look at the broad trends, most AD's are less concerned about actual attendance than they used to be because there are so many other options to monetize interest. In 1982, attendance was the KEY driver. While it has declined (undeniable) since 2005, it has also INCREASED...

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

Let's update the chart then. Using your figures, it's nearly a 30% drop in attendance since 2005. Is that a big deal? Perhaps not in an era of media payouts that we are in now.

Tech - uga in 2025 at MB Stadium

GT attendance is down, on average, 14% from 2005. Average attendance 2005-2019 (the latest published figures available) is 48,039. It was 37,819 (estimated) in 2021, but that was COVID. The COFH game regularly pulls 55,000 ...

    Conference Realignment

Mostly true. The only solution now is for universities to pay students to attend. That would level the playing field.

    Conference Realignment

Has it been wrecked? I dunno. The same top 30 teams today are the same as 30 years ago. I heard yesterday that in the pros, 38% of teams regularly make the playoffs and that college teams feel likewise... if they commit more, they should get more. Dollars. I think in terms of if $192...

    Conference Realignment

Agreed. Fans today want a Fan Experience, premium seating, fun eats and atmosphere. It all comes with a price.

    Conference Realignment

To put this in perspective, the entire Auburn Athletics budget in 1982 was $1 million. This year, it's $192 million. That sums up college athletics today. (I still prefer it to pro.)

DABO on Revenue Sharing and NIL--Clemson Short on NIL?

There is nothing to prevent any team from recruiting anywhere. Tennessee had a full-time recruiting office in Southern California despite not being a PAC-12 member. As to research, departments make their own decisions. Athletic conferences have very little to do with strategic partnerships for...
