They could be non Division I or non NCAA opponents. For example, ESPN says Kennesaw St played Brescia, a NAIA school from Kentucky.

It’s also not hard to show grace for a young man who has committed to attend and play baseball for GT because he doesn’t yet know the formal name of the school. I don’t believe he intended to show any disrespect.

On the Durham Bulls roster, he shows as being on the Development List, not active. It may be that they have him up there for additional workouts and/or as a backup in case someone gets hurt in the playoffs.
