  1. CPJ needs to be fired

Yep. For the tl;dr crowd, the idea of the article is "if you have a good coach that is plateauing/having a "reset" year, maybe analyze the program and fix that stuff before trying to fire your way out of it".
  2. A question for ex players or serious fans

People here like to say this, but there have been several studies over the last decade that show that recruiting rankings are a reasonably good predictor of success on both the individual talent and team results levels. As of our Orange Bowl year, Wisconsin (top 30 classes that play like top...
  3. Rational Off-season Discussion Thread

He's not the best yet but he very well could be by the time he leaves.
  4. CPJ needs to be fired

Just going to leave this here: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/11/27/16704020/kevin-sumlin-todd-graham-texas-am-arizona-state-coaches-fired Firing CPJ would get us the same "WTF? Those f***ing idiots" reaction that Arizona State is getting right now.
  5. PI on fake punt

It makes sense if you think about it for a second. Those outside guys on punts are looking to get blocked, and I’m guessing the rule exists for a good reason if you go look at history.
  6. State of program

At an absolute minimum he is safe until the Gregory and Hewitt buyouts are done, which is next year IIRC.
  7. Why do we suck on the road?

Sure, but there’s “a bit worse” and then there’s “1.5 ypp worse”.
  8. Why do we suck on the road?

Offense: Home 6.2 yards per play Road 5.53 ypp Defense: Home 4.48 ypp Road 5.96 ypp http://www.cfbstats.com/2017/team/255/index.html I’d pick out more stats, but I’m on mobile. Main caveat is that these are not adjusted for opponent. Kickoffs are notably worse on the road as well. So the...
  9. State of program

The simple facts are that we can't afford to make a change this year, even if we wanted to. And I don't want to be 10th in line on the coaching carousel anyway.
  10. State of program

They beat the worst UGA teams of the last two decades 3 times in a row, and that's all some people remember.
  11. State of program

CPJ has never killed a kid in drills, either. O'Leary can burn as far as I'm concerned.
  12. Duke prediction thread

    1) NW shouldn't be #23. That ranking is a joke. 2) That game was 2 months ago, and Duke has been one of the worst teams in the country since they beat very bad Baylor and UNC teams.
  13. Virginia Tech postgame discussion

Refs won't call OPI on a push-off these days, especially in a close-and-late situation. Everyone knows that, and our 5'9" DBs sure ought to know that by now.
  14. Virginia Tech postgame discussion

The chop block call was textbook. I can't imagine any possible argument against it.
  15. How good are we?

Eh, we beat UT and UVA pretty handily with better FG/kickoff games. It's still a reflection on the staff that we didn't have anyone ready to replace Butker, but it's an obvious thing to point to for two more wins.
  16. Dec 2

If we make it to a bowl with 5 wins it is because there are no more 6-win teams to go in. Can you name any of the 5-win teams that have gone in recently? I sure can't, and I follow college football very closely.
  17. Dec 2

All this moaning about a crappy Duke team that's lost 5 in a row is hilarious. They're bad this year! Relax! For the record, gimme UTSA. My MIL went there and it would be fun.
  18. Glad you asked

A Tech-focused Pre-Law degree would be nice, too. Hell, a Tech-focused full-on Law School would have been a fantastic addition about 15 years ago, but we can't get it done.
  19. Virginia postgame discussion

Yeah a guy that couldn't win at UT or USC is going to do fantastic at GT
  20. Reporters ???

Beat writing isn't really journalism in the normal sense. When your entire job depends on having access to facilities/players/coaches, your incentives are very strong to not make them angry and there is no upside to asking "hard" questions.
