  1. So who leaves? Attrition.

Those qualities exist on a spectrum, but to the gist of your question, yes, many inside and outside of GT live by a higher standard of that philosophy than what some posters here suggest otherwise. Remember, this is an online forum and does not represent an unbiased sample of the GT population...
  2. Attrition and Scholarship Limits

I figured a dose of reality in this thread (among other recent ones) was very much needed, and to quote all the replies to show the relevancy is beyond my patience. Not to mention, I've lost any hope that there would be any semblance of honest, logical discussion, so it (and this) seems like...
  3. Attrition and Scholarship Limits

I was also a student, and it's obvious a lot of posters here are not. GT is far closer to shutting down football versus transforming into a factory where football calls the shots. Money, faculty, student, alumni, parents, politicians, reputation, you name it; football has nothing on academics at GT.
  4. Brent Key tweet and apology

It disturbs me that someone would even have those two wires remotely connected to even allow for the thought to transpire... he deserves all the criticism coming his way... and frankly as the face of GT recruiting, so does it.
  5. Ye olde coachinge debates

Geez, this thread is all over the place with so much hyperbole, obfuscation, strawmen, and shifting goal posts that I don't even know what's the original point(s?).
  6. Paul Johnson era signature game

Heh, TV viewers probably think that energy came from knocking off a top 5 opponent, but really everybody was just jumping and hollering to generate some heat in that bloody cold night.
  7. Bebe arrested ...

I really don't get where the mindset comes from that reckless driving isn't that bad and only results in a fine. Its degree of severeness (and range of penalties) overlaps with DUI. Maybe people are confusing the charge of reckless driving with a lower speeding charge?
  8. Braun to Texas

Even if GT offered the master Parker wants, conventional wisdom from an industrial and academic perspective is it's better to get your Master's at a different school from your Bachelors. It's an opportunity to show how the individual adapts and learns in a different environment as well as the...
  9. Bebe arrested ...

Not trying to pile on or anything, but reckless driving in the admittedly few states I'm aware of (Colorado is not one of them) is very serious and unless it's pleaded down (defendants will definitely want a lawyer), it usually results in jail time in addition to fines plus suspension of...
  10. 2019 Offseason Thread

Or the student could, you know, put more effort in studying and practicing/experimenting to set themselves up for success instead of using difficulty/workload as an excuse to not hold themselves accountable for their results. I felt a lot of the courses at Tech were not as thorough or advanced...
  11. Parker Braun transferring

Other universities have more existing space and infrastructure to support the "diversified" education, and even then, I'd say most (all?) of them are doing a disservice to those not part of the target by detracting resources/attention. My point is that even without the additional easy majors, GT...
  12. Parker Braun transferring

GT already has easier majors; the degree of ease just depends on what you're comparing to. Valuewise, I'd say offering easier majors primarily for athletes is detrimental to GT's current and prospective students. From a ground zero perspective spanning a decade, there is increasingly inadequate...
  13. Wesley Wells

Assuming a walk-on's career plans do not include football (which I think is a fair assumption for a GT walk-on), I can't see one prolonging their graduation and incurring exponentially growing opportunity costs to play football, and I say that as somebody who enjoyed student life at Tech. But I...
  14. Scheduling

I touched on the subject in my first post, but in my experience through undergrad and grad at GT, it's a very small percentage of GT alumni (I would place an optimistic guess of 5% and a pessimistic guess of <2%) that are college football enthusiasts in which I define as someone who would...
  15. Wesley Wells

It's a school-sponsered athletic scholarship. It's also an interesting question that can be expanded beyond the qualifier. Does and/or should one's financial status play an important role in determining whether or not one is qualified for scholarship(s)? In my opinion, that should be up to the...
  16. President Peterson has announced his retirement

I don't know what nominal means... I remember when I applied to UGA as one of my backups for undergrad that I had to apply to their school of science since that was the only school they had close to engineering/technology.
  17. President Peterson has announced his retirement

I understand that reasoning, but I disagree with it. Comparing my undergraduate and graduate attendance at GT separated by about a decade, I was blown away by the increased overcrowding on campus, including classes. GT needs to considerably increase their admissions standards if they aren't...
  18. President Peterson has announced his retirement

As I understand, the philosophy of GT for most of its history was to apply lower threshold filtering at the entrance with more stringent filtering during one's higher education. From what I've heard and somewhat supported by acceptance rates reported by U.S News, this is opposite compared to...
  19. President Peterson has announced his retirement

After some googling, I found a document summarizing GTAA finances [1]. Page 17 gives a summary of the summary. "Institutional support" for 2017 is only ~3% of revenue. However, that doesn't include "student athletic fees" (~8%) and "premium lease fees" (~14%) among some others that one could...
  20. President Peterson has announced his retirement

In my view, it was embarrassing that GA's "flagstaff" university didn't have a school of engineering. Is there even a University of [insert state] that doesn't have a school of engineering? And if there isn't, how late was UGA to the party?
