Aaaand just saw another followup from TwistNHook on WriteforCalifornia (looks like there are 7 articles in the series now):

No one's crying anyone a river. He's simply stating facts.
Another fact you neglect to mention: coaches sign contracts >1 year, and they have buyouts to pay should they leave. So while yes, they were still able to take advantage of the market, the market has always had some incentive to keep...
Certainly can't fault that. But apparently Georgia State had to put spring practice on hold, as he left 2 days into the first week of it. That's kinda crummy - but I imagine he couldn't control the timing of when an offer like this came up.
I also think this does present another referendum on...
In other news, if this is correct, looks like the influx of teams has the SEC finally moving to a 9-game schedule.

Bummer. Was really pulling for him in the NFL. Had a lot of off-field family stuff that I imagine got in his head and made him less-consistent than he was with us. Hopefully he can get his game back and still do some interesting stuff.
I've seen all of the posts on this in various places (forgive me for continuing it in another thread - maybe I should start a new thread?). And appreciate your and @TechPhi97 digging into the numbers.
My question is this: does "debt service" here just include our payments against the debt? Or...
Man. I had forgotten what it was like to have a good staff.
Glad he's getting a shot, but would hate to lose him and have to start again.
Hopefully I'm going to have to feel this way a lot in the future, as we keep on hiring amazing coaches and watching them get recognition.
As others have said, the time remaining on the GOR contract is a very big difference.
Combined with that, the other difference I haven't seen mentioned much is the "rock and a hard place" position that FSU's actions have put the ACC in.
I agree with your assertion that ESPN and the league may...
The whole "White glove treatment" of the ESPN contract always seemed kinda strange to me. I mean, I could see that it wanted to keep the negotiations close to home to prevent FOIA requests of its public school members. But that has never seemed enough of a reason - what benefit is there in...
Agreed with all of this. No matter what happens, I think we can all agree that it will be interesting to look back at this time in a few years as a business case study. The question is, will it be about "what to do"? Or "what not to do?"
Sure, money has always been important. But in relation to the comment you're responding to, conferences were not for money when Tech joined the ACC. They were about scheduling at that time, and that's it (since the original other purpose of conferences - that of having common rules and...
Is this the same Harold's next to the Federal Pen? Didn't it close?
That broke my heart when I read the news. Best BBQ I've ever had. (Melear's in Fayetteville was also great).
