    Pnode to ODU as OC

He seems like a good guy. I hope he does well there. I think he was just in way over his head with the roster churn, lack of upperclassman experience at several positions, and going against a higher level of competition than he was used to. I hope he has a good rest of his career as long as he’s...

    IF THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENS

If it happens, I’ll tell my coworkers to find and speak to a georgie fan and then tell me whether they still think Oregon fans are worse.

Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

I wouldn’t say nobody on the DL was disruptive or got pressure. I thought Ivey played pretty well, as did Brooks, and Biggers showed some flashes of potential. Domineck didn’t have a good year, but he wasn’t put in a good position to take advantage of his strengths. To have success on DL, you...

Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

Depends on whether he’s a strong safety or a free safety. Strong safeties need to be big, but free safeties can be smaller. Think Earl Thomas.

Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

I don’t know that anyone said Quez is easily replaceable. If you’re referring to my comments, I was simply stating that LB is probably not our biggest weakness on defense and that while it might be nice to get an elite one through the portal, the linebackers we already have are plenty good for...

Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

I’d say the D-line and secondary are more critical to fixing our defense at this point in time, especially the secondary. Losing Quez hurts, but I’m not sure we’re as thin at LB as you’re implying. We have Ace and (presumably) Charlie coming back. Meiguez should be back from injury this year...

    Why is Thacker still employed?

You just sparked some insight in my mind! Now I think I know exactly why Thacker (barring a late dismissal) was retained but Patenaude wasn’t. It’s because of Collins’ skills as a former defensive coordinator. He knows Thacker will listen to him and has familiarity with his terms...

    Why is Thacker still employed?

I think we’re past that point, and if Collins doesn’t know that, Todd Stansbury isn’t doing a very good job of communicating expectations. If the intel from the 247 podcast is correct, I would guess that Collins is waiting to see who he can get as a special teams coach and letting Thacker weigh...

    Building the Offensive Line

I’m really excited to see us run a lot more 12 personnel now that we have the players for it! Chip Long likes TEs? Well now we’ve got Benson, Deveney, Leonard, Ward, and Coco who project to be ATL (and who knows? Maybe Postma gets ATL after a year of development). If we run more 12 personnel...

Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

With all due respect, if CPJ is allowed the “bad luck” excuse in year 11, we can’t just turn around and blame everything on Collins’ ineptitude in years 1-3. A few better bounces, and we don’t lose to Citadel. Lucas Johnson doesn’t turn the ball over on the goal line, and we beat Pitt for...

Have we filled all of our coaching vacancies yet?

NFL offenses may be more spread-based now than they were, but in 2015 and 2016, there were still teams that ran Power I, and the Rams were definitely one of them. I’m not as sure about TN though. I don’t know much about Chaney other than that he was Kirby Smart’s OC at georgie for a couple years.

Have we filled all of our coaching vacancies yet?

I think the jury is out on Weinke. He coached Nick Foles and Case Keenum on the Rams, but those guys have been coached by a lot of people, and those were Jeff Fisher Rams teams. He coached Goff his rookie year (the year Fisher got fired). And he coached mediocre QBs in Knoxville for a couple...

    Building the Offensive Line

I agree with everything you say about CPJ’s scheme regarding the run game. Pass blocking is another story, but there aren’t a whole lotta tricks that make pass protection easier when overmatched physically 1-on-1. There’s basically double-teaming, play action, and max protect. I think you’re...

    Building the Offensive Line

Who’s our starting LT going to be? How about LG? With those two coming in, LT looks much less dire, and now we have more options at guard. Not getting many snaps at Clemson or Bama says something different than not getting many snaps at, let’s say, Northwestern. It’s not that these guys are...

    Building the Offensive Line

It’s not the offense’s fault our secondary looked confused so much or that we barely got any interceptions the entire season or that we kept allowing our opponents to convert 3rd-and-longs. Don’t get me wrong; our OL was still well below average, our play calling was uninspired, and our offense...

    Building the Offensive Line

Pretty good write up for the most part. The one thing I have to disagree with you on is your analysis of the 2019 class. Recruiting is not an easy task, and a big component of it is relationships. Collins was hired and started recruiting for Tech in December of 2018, close to the early signing...

    Building the Offensive Line

I’ve seen great improvement in Minihan. It’s tough to evaluate the coaching in general because our starting lineup has been a revolving door for the most part. If Quinney had stayed, he would have been a good barometer too. I’d like to say something about Jordan Williams, but he was out for a...

    Building the Offensive Line

Brent Key is probably the best OL coach we can get, so we’re already covered on that point. I think he’s been doing his best to build the line, but he arrived too late in the recruiting cycle to get anyone he liked in 2019, and then it seems that it was harder to recruit OL to Tech than he...

Have we filled all of our coaching vacancies yet?

If Thacker is going to be the DC, he better have learned a lot from his failures last season. I’m not opposed to the idea of having our DC completely dedicated to that role only, but I have little confidence in the defensive play calling and personnel packages we’ve seen from Thacker thus far...

    Throwing on First Down

I say that whether you run or pass should be determined more by the strengths of the offense and weaknesses of the defense than the fact that it’s 1st and 10. CPJ would call a pass on the first offensive play of the game at times, so there’s no reason Chip Long shouldn’t do the same. But if we...
