    If a change is made...

Considering the budget constraints and odd timing of the buyout drop, perhaps the best mid/long-term solution is to hire a consultant to evaluate every coach on the current staff. We find which coach (whether it be a coordinator or position coach) is the most competent at his job. Then we offer...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

That’s not even just a negotiation failure; that’s a failure to pay attention to details. There’s no way CGC cared about being fired in November vs January enough to push for that definition of a contract year. That sounds way more like a case of copy-pasting standard employment contract terms...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

The angry fans won’t go to any games for the new head coach until we’ve already won a bunch of games. They’re just going to whine that the head coach should be fired if we have a bad season. And then when firing people doesn’t fix everything, they’ll just say more people need to be fired. It’s...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

So then Collins is going to keep coaching while we look for a new AD? Because hiring and firing coaches is something that needs to be left to the AD.

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

I think TStan would have to get the boosters to get the money together before he can pull the trigger. He needs to not only have the money for the buyout but also have a good amount of money to be able to offer the next guy.

Similar thing with Memphis apparently too. Justin Fuente and Mike Norvell were pretty successful at Memphis and then have just done terribly at their subsequent jobs.

Props to Andrew Thacker (maybe CGC)

I thought the defense played very well against Clemson. I hope they have a similar level of play (like in the first half) against all the other teams on our schedule, but I worry that this will be a repeat of the Clemson and UNC games from last year. We looked good until everyone had film on us...

What D will we run 3-4 or 4-3

Unless we have guys who can play 4-tech proficiently on a consistent basis, I would expect that we’ll play mostly 4-2-5. Our players seem to fit more neatly into roles in the 4-2-5 than 3-4 or 3-3-5.

    ACC Media Days

With regards to #2, I’d have to imagine that if the money was there to both fire Collins and pay another (more promising) coaching staff, the athletic department would have done so. You think they were afraid of how it would look firing a coach who only won 3 games a year for 3 seasons straight...

    ACC Media Days

Yup. I really want to like the guy and believe that he can turn it around, but when he does that he just comes off as someone who doesn’t want to admit fault or failure because he thinks it makes him look weak.

    ACC Media Days

Thanks for sharing that! The Collins stuff was pretty grating. I know it’s good to play it close to the vest, but it’s like he went out of his way to avoid even coming close to answering any of the questions. The reporters may not be trying to help GT football, but you don’t need to treat them...

    Pre-Season Projected Starters

Hard to say what it means being behind Pyron (since Pyron was an Elite11 QB), but if he’s really behind Taisun, then that’s concerning (unless Taisun is just really good and somehow got overlooked/misused at Clemson). I would think that Gibson, given his experience and history, would at least be...

    Excitement for the 2022 Season

I’d think they have a low level of commitment to athletic excellence. I also think that we have a low level of commitment to athletic excellence. And that’s going to be true whether we keep Collins or fire him, even if he or his replacement have a high level of success. Sorry, I got distracted...

    Excitement for the 2022 Season

After looking through the roster and staff, I think the coaching will be much improved. QBs finally get undivided attention from a position coach. Chip Long and Del Alexander have worked together before and have impressive resumes. Daniels seems to have a pretty solid track record with RBs...

    If the ACC scraps divisions...

I’m fine with scrapping divisions, but I’m only okay with permanent rival games if they’re out of conference games. My biggest gripe with the Coastal Division has always been that we’re the only team in it that has to play Clemson every year. Some of my favorite memories are of beating Clemson...

Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

I guess I don’t understand the transfer process very well. Is there some kind of waiting period? I would think that players can just enroll at their new schools, which would render any kind of public “commitment” utterly nonsensical. If you’re committed, just enroll. I guess I don’t have the...

    2022 Spring Football Practice

It’s actually kind of ironic. Despite all the comparisons being made between CGC and B*** L****, the people making these comparisons seem to have the same kind of tunnel vision about only looking at wins and losses that makes it likely to end up with another B*** L**** type of hiring decision...

    Juanyeh at the Combine

Seems pretty suited to play Strong Safety at the next level. Maybe that was the problem with the defense: we had a starting SS who should have been playing LB and a starting FS who should have been playing SS. Sometimes guys are put at the wrong position. Just ask Richard Sherman.

    Looking at the roster...

The problem is we couldn’t have made some of these changes 2 years ago. Chip Long would’ve taken a lot of convincing to come to Tech straight from Notre Dame, and we would have had a heck of a time trying to convince Turner to leave UF for Tech. And I believe Weinke was at Tennessee at that...

Great instructor too. Chip runs the jazz ensembles at Tech, and he’s fantastic! My improv soloing abilities improved drastically from playing in his ensembles!
