I definitely understand why we'd do that...and I understand why that would make the GT job less desirable for many coaches. Looks like we're going the cheap method on HC, hopefully we can build a badass staff around him with those savings.
He's also currently listed as the run game coordinator at uga. I don't know how much game planning/play calling is included in that role (if any) but it at least sounds more involved and closer to an OC role than just having the RB coach title alone.
I agree with a lot of this post and it makes me even more curious how Key laid out his plan in his interview. Who did he pitch as his OC? I think there is zero chance Batt is going to hire Key as HC and then try to micromanage a selection of an OC for him as well so he'd be looking for Key to...
"6 years bad, 1 year good" just seems deliberately inaccurate. He took Tulane, a team that mostly won 2-3 games a year to 7 wins a year by his 3rd year there. Tying for 1st in their division year 3. And you consider that 1 of the "bad years". That don't make sense.
I've enjoyed a lot of what Key has done and still been hesitant about wanting him for the full time gig. Just thought that we shouldn't let ourselves get short sighted with some over performance in the interim stage that would prevent us from hiring a better long term option. And while I do...
Since when were Rhule and Fickell in the top 4? I've heard for weeks the names Chadwell, Fritz, BOB, Bill Clark floating around along with Key. Never once heard Fickell or Rhule
That loss sucked. Plus side is there's only 2-3 more weeks tops until they name a new coach and then we can all complain about how it's an underwhelming hire for the next several months
FWIW, Steven Godfrey on his SplitZone Duo podcast said Willie Fritz from Tulane and Bill Clark formerly with UAB had both expressed interest in the job. Either one would be a good ball coach and I think could win here. Fritz's age would be my main concern but maybe he could be a bit of a...
On top of raising money I wonder if this is a way to signal to head coaching candidates that GT as a school is going to commit more to athletics. I feel like that's a question many head coaching candidates could wonder about GT and this action could be a signal that the hill is on board with...
C'mon...I'm pretty sure I can give you his answer to most of the questions you're asking: "Let me find the coffee first and we'll look into it".
He hasn't even started day 1 yet, he's not going to have details on length of contract and buyout for a new football coach. Let alone proffer that...
I do think Eric Henderson is an interesting option. GT ties aside he's a super bowl winning coach on one of the more innovative NFL staffs in the league. The fact he's a former player is gravy.
BUT I don't know if we go with another defensive minded coach again after CGC. Don't think it...
